Up for sale is this lovely specimen of a 1980 Marshall JMP 2004 50 Watt Head. The last of the mohicans. Marshall switched over to the JCM 800 series shortly after this amp was made. This amp was just serviced and given a clean bill of health by my amp tech here in Atlanta - a former Orange Amps designer who designed the Marcus King signature amp and is a die hard Marshall guy. This amp sounds just like a good Marshall should - ballsy and punchy with a nice range of gain available.
Condition wise, this amp has been professionally recapped and comes loaded with a new set of EH 6CA7 power tubes. It has one non-original knob, and I can provide additional replacement knobs to match the new one. Yes, there are some scuffs and tolex imperfections consistent with age. But overall, I would consider this amp to be in very good condition considering its vintage.
I am not aware of any significant mods to this amp, apart from any basic work done for the 6550 to EL34/6CA7 conversion, but I am not an expert. Please check the photos very carefully and make a decision as to whether the condition inside and out is acceptable to you. This amp is sold as is, so feel free to ask questions.
