Messing around with the reissue 50 watt plexi today. Tried a little Guns. The chain is Strat with Duncan Custom Custom>SD1>1987X>Ultimate Attenuator>Marshall 2X12 cab with G12M25 reissues. SM57>ART mic pre>Holy Grail reverb>laptop. How's it sound?

It's a cool tone but nowhere near old guns.
Its more lynch than slash/izzy

dude what badass clip, easily one of the best GN'R clips i've heard on the net. I thought it was in the same vein as slash's hotrodded tone on appetite, definately closer than anything I've heard before...including any clips of caswell modded marshalls. Just really well done overall, and of course great playing. How loud was the volume in the room on that recording, and is that ultimate attenuator really worth the $500 tag? cheers

no it wasnt exact, but i thought it was a killer tone in that very same vein. it was definatley in that GNR spirit

Thanks, dudes. The Appetite tone was definitely "toothier" than a typical boosted plexi, but still a close relative. I think a boosted 800 would do it a little better, but I like my little plexi. The final volume was not overly loud, and yes the Ultimate Attenuator is worth every penny. It truly preserves your tone. I couldn't imgine using these NMV's without it.

Yeah.
I can get close with my 800's, and once my Caswell modded one comes back, i should be able to nail it! :D

try the same setup with a LP. then you'd be right there imho.
