Hey guys- Was wondering if there have been any changes to the VH4 since 2005. Was thinking about picking up a used 05 one and wanted to know if there were any major differences between then and now. Thoughts and comments much appreciated. Thanks and Happy Easter!

I have a 2006 VH4 and have played the newer revision. No significant difference in my opinion. More gain (honestly, who needs?) and less compression in high frequencies they say - So perhaps someone might call the later revision a bit more brighter. But in my opinion the tone is already perfect so if you have a good deal this should by no means be a factor to prevent you from closing the deal. There are no changes made to the features themselves, only minor tonal tweaks. If I remember right the newer revision was introduced in 2007, but Im sure someone will come and confirming the real dates and details.

Yes, I believe i.ak is correct. I remember Peter Diezel saying they did a small change in 2007 and possibly in 2011. Not a necessary change though. I believe it was less compression and possibly something to do with more or less power amp "Thump..." I will try and dig it up for you.

Get the 05 man. Is that when they still had the red power switch?

And here you are....

When and how many stages/progressions have happened to the VH4? we know of 2008 to be the latest update/tweak (loved my '08), but is a 2007 vh4 same as 1998 vh4? or was there another update/tweak in early 2000+ , and is 1998 same as 1994-5 vh4? etc.

If there was a update/tweak in the early 2000's that sort of averages that an update occurs every 5 years, so since its been 5+ years since the last update/tweak....is there an update/tweak you have in mind in the near future for the VH4 as i am really looking to buy a brand new VH4 and find myself waiting for the next updated/tweaked/stage vh4.

There are no big updates till 2007. Then we added more bottom on the power amp
and more treble on the preamp. That´s it. There is no really big difference.

In terms of tone the statement "There are no big updates till 2007" is giving a bit incorrect impression. At least how I felt the difference was not "big" by any means. 2005 should not lack bass nor treble, but 2007+ will give you still more of them.

I have no idea what kind of tones 'kalt' is after, but just for reference that with my other band I play only with 7- and 8-string guitars and I have never adjusted the bass or deep over noon (both usually at 11 o'clock). And treble and presence are usually at 1 o'clock. Gain at 1.00 - 2.00 o'clock. So for me the "obsolete" 2006 VH4 is capable to provide gain, bass and treble more than enough for my needs.

Ok, so just to clarify an 07 and/or 08 VH4 would essentially be the same VH4 as today?

I've played a '98, '07, and a '11. They all sound like a VH4 but were a bit different. Definitely differences in the circuit between the '98 and the '07. I didn't get a chance to peak under the hood of the '11.

They're all bad ass. Just get the one you can and enjoy.
