Has anyone compared these amps side by side?

I'm inclining more for the CAE.

I've heard nothing but perfect reviews from both heads... What are the differences, which one would you buy if you had to choose 1?

I haven't owned a 20th Anni, but have spent a lot of time with the amp and own a 101B. I also owned a PT100.

Both are great amps with similar layouts. Clean channel & 2 gain channels with a shared EQ. It really depends on what your tastes are... if you like low mid voicing and more growl, then the XTC can't be beat. If you like more upper mids and Kerrang, then the CAA might be a better choice. Both are very versatile with the edge to Bogner for more options tonally. I wouldn't mind owning another PT100 when they release the new version (tubes up, midi capable, Suhr branding), but my next amp will be a 20th Anni XTC.

Ok. And forgot to mention. I have a Diezel Einstein. Which amp complements it better in your opinion? Because I prefer to do the least overlapying posible. I would try them but none of them is available in Argentina....

If it helps I play mostly 80´s hard rock / metal. Don´t play modern stuff...

I have had booth and still have the 20th XTC. Both are excellent but to me the 20th XTC is a bit more versatile and to my ears a bit sweeter sounding.

The 20th Anni XTC that Brad owns now is the same one that I A/B'd with my 101B and the PT100 and it's an awesome amp! Originally owned by Cali68 before it made it's way to Brad. Wish I had bought it when I had the chance!
This was the amp that convinced me to sell my PT100!

If you already own a Herbert get the Bogner. I've played the PT and 20th side by side.

Einstein...not Herbert.

Tough call, the Einstein's got a lot of territory it can offer, but the 20thA is my all-star amp currently. FWIW...

Which crushes which the Bogner crushes the CAE?

Thanks guys, I think both are great amps thats for sure, I just can't make up my mind...

My guess? The 20thA wins hands down compared to almost all comparable amps... Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's a reason they're the least re-sold amps on eBay; people eat 'em up quick, and their price stays pretty high regardless. They are amazing amps and can easily do pretty well everything other amps can do up to the nu-metal stuff at which point they politely bow out of the running.

20th XTC is insanely good...and there's so many ways you can set it up, you'd never be bored. The PT-100 and all the CAE stuff sounds grainy to me...I'm sure it's a great amp, too...just not my bag.

I recently A/B'd an original Uberschall (which I sold to get a 101B) to an Einstein, because I had a possible trade to get the Einstein. No contest, the Bogner ate the other amp for lunch.

That was my issue with the PT100... there's a top end sizzle I could never quite dial out. I always wrote it off as my ears being used to the Bogner sound, but eventually I just couldn't fight the amp anymore.

It was a joke ... because they are both great amps. ;) Kind of like asking what is better .... brown or yellow mustard.

Me too. :D

I just posted a random blurb on the main forum...

I think I need this, that and the other useless POS when I'm not playing - right?? We all get like this, I think... Can't play, so surf the net, look at gear, convince ourselves we need it, blah blah blah. For chrissakes, I just plugged into this materpiece AGAIN...it just doesn't cease to amaze!! Today it's Channel 2, boost, gain high, and cranked - blowin' off rockin' tunes and licks like none other, then BOOM, over to the neck pup, tone rolled back to 1 or 2, INSTANT Slash on Roids solo tone...

My GAWD they've nailed this amp!!!!

V.

And BTW, I'm an "any kind of mustard guy" so long as it's got a 20thA XTC loaded with EL34's and a V30 loaded 4x12 mixed into it :D

I think the real question here should be, "20th Ann XTC (with el34's) OR Friedman Marsha. From what I can tell by the soundclips out there, these two amps are closer in gain amount/structure and voicing than most others are. They come out to be about the same price too when you load the Marsha up with all the options.
I'm really having a tough time with this decision. I've been down to these two amps for months now, and I just can't decide! Oh well, that's probably good because I'm broke. I have plenty of time to save up some cash while I choose. :aww:
