Please try the new Mullard 12AX7's in this amp....you won't believe it!!!!

all 8 slots? what's in it now? what's in the power section? I haven't even opened her up and looked yet.....she sounds awesome stock!

A couple friends of mine tried the new EVH and didn't find it better than the 5150 so I never wen to check one out. Are they that much better than the 5150s? Again I am going by a few friend's opinions but they are reliable.

I only have 3 Mullards right now....so I put them in the first three slots along with EH in the remaining five slots. My amp came with JJ pre-amp tubes (which I don't like at all) as well as jj power tubes. The Mulllard tubes (to my ears) make this amp sound much more clear with additional gain to boot. Just an all around better tone......

My Cameron is with Mark right now so I really can't compare it to the 5150 III (he's had it for 6 weeks)......hopefully it will return soon and I will shoot you a detailed comparison.

Regarding the original.....the 5150 III sounds very different than the Peavey. Much more organic with a very special mid range quality. As for which one is better, that's a subjective call...I dig the 5150 III MUCH better....but thats just me!

Not to turn this into a comparison thread , but between the 5153 and your jvm which will sound better at the older VH tones ?
Thanks

That's a tough call.....the JVM OD1 Orange gets pretty close and the 5150III (with the right tubes and cab) gets really close. To me, the 5150 III can get closer to the 1984 tone and the JVM gets closer to the VH1 tone.......

But if you really want the real deal.....Mark Abrahamian's plexi build (I think he is "rockstah"?? at the metroamp forum) is the amp that totally nails that old VH tone dead on.......and I mean dead on!!!!

What a LOAD of nonsense... It KILLS the previous Peavey versions, IMO. IF, I were in the position of looking for an amp, it would be in the running.
