Has anyone tried either approach on their MOD 100? Which one is the most balanced between Marshall/VX and Fender/Boogie type tones?

If you put Tung-Sol 5881s in you may never take them out.

For some reason they are night and day better than other 5881s in MOD 50 and IMO all other tube types as well. I tried EL34s but they didnt have the punch. The TS 5881s have everything. Theres lots of fans of them on this forum.

Not sure how they fair in MOD 100, but like I said, in the 50 they are almost untouchable IMO.

Thanks guys for the reply. Any reliable tube vendors you could recommend for the Tung-Sol's?

Jeff - Nice! Anthing special I have to do to mix those two? And which brands do you use and how does the amps tone differ from the 6L6's you ship with? Mine has 6L6's.

i've bought all of my tubes from thetubestore.com, and I have had 0 problems with any of the tubes I have gotten.

+1 on tubestore.com Jon is a good dude he will warn you that the plate voltage on the Mod 50 is too high for Tung 5881s but just get them anyway

Thanks - I'll check out tubestore.com

Jeff, how do you set the bias on those 6v6's? My manual doesn't list those tubes in the voltage charts.

Here is the manual pdf that I just looked at to get the 6v6 voltage. The answer is on page 7 of 10. It should be set between 18mv and 22mv.
