I owned a 7-string about 20 years ago when I was in a death metal band. Lately, I've had the itch to get another...

So many choices these days. Back then, I had an S-Series Ibanez, and an MIJ RG7420 I believe it was..

I prefer something with a Hipshot hardtail, good pickups, locking tuners, neck-thru would be nice. Ebony board.. So far, I'm leaning towards a used Schecter SLS Elite C-7..

What's the peanut gallery think?

I have a PRS mark Holcomb 7… I’ve got no complaints. Plays great, I love the pickups, ebony board, stays in tune, sounds great . I wouldn’t hesitate to get one again personally.

Although it doesn't meet all your preferences - I've got a Jackson Jeff Loomis SL7 and I love it. First 7 string and first Floyd, really fun to play.

I second the Holcomb 7 - great spec, feel, and playability, separate form the fact that it's an import/more budget oriented guitar.

My Schecter Banshee Elite 7 absolutely crushes my Ibanez Prestige in every way. Ibanez are over valued, I assume from commanding such a big share of the affordable shreddy neck and 7 string market in decades past.

Another vote for the Holcomb 7. I picked mine up for around $800 used, worth every penny.

I use a Squire 7-String Baritone with a Floyd Rose live! Popped some SD Invaders in and it's been a reliable shred machine. Only issue is that it's very heavy weight wise. Cost me around 240$ for a mint condition one.

Carvin(DC7, DC700, DC747,DC7X) possibly some used kiesels
Legator,(N7P,N7OD, OT7, others)
Agile,(MOD, Nirvana, Pro, others)
LTD (black metal, arctic metal, baritones)
Halo (numerous)
Ormsby(numerous)
Jackson (X or Pro)
Ibanez (axiom, some prestige)
FGN (FujiGen) (Mythic)

Now might be the time to check out a multiscale, too! GL!

I've contemplated that one as well. Actually I wish they did a 6 string version!! Floyd's aren't really off the table, I already have 2 Floyd guitars, just wanted simple... adding a 7th string to change on a Floyd just sounds ugghh. Other than that, it checks the boxes! Also made in Korea, not Indonesia.

I went to an ampfest at Mailman Dan's house many moons ago. I cant recall the member that had it but some one had a Loomis sig Schecter FR-7.

That guitar was really nice. That's all I know about 7 strings.

They have the kelly with the same pickups, which I think sound pretty good. I hear ya though sometimes you just need something different
