Hey folks,

I´m thinking of buying a 7-String guitar. I played a Schecter Jeff Loomis once but over a Marshall. Has anyone experience with the EMG 707 and a Diezel? Untill now i prefer passive PU´s with my VH4...

I found the loomis to be a very very bright guitar. If you don't dig the 707s try a set of nailbombs. They are super punchy and work well in bright guitars imo

I use my uv777 constantly with the Herbert.

I have a emg equiped guitar but i really dont like emg in combination wth my herbert.
EMG and herbert is, sterile-cold-thin-over compressed etc.

Passive is the way to go

Nailbombs are passive PU´s? I like passive PU´s very much so far, but I liked the geometry of the Schecter...

That´s what I was afraid of :D So it makes not so much sense to me to buy an active guitar and the switch so passive...?!

Well, why not. If you really like the guitar, go for it.

Ive been wanting to swap my stock pickups for some time now. Pickups are a hard thing to demo. I tried BKP warpigs but i didnt like them, i bought them and sold them, i lost about 50%. The stock pickups are still verry good pickups so i dont feel the hurry anymore. But i dont like emg anymore. If my main axe would be equiped with them i would defenantly swap them out asap. Check wat pickups you could find second hand if thats an option.

Yessir, they are passive.

Servus Hartmut,

If you like the "Geometry" of the Schecter Jeff Loomis, you can either get a Schecter C-7 Custom (same body shape but with Seymour Duncan SH-4 and SH1 passive PU) or get the Schecter Blackjack SLS C-7 with Passive PU (with Semour Duncan SH-10 and SH-2).

I had the Schecter Hellraiser C-7 with EMG707. But at that time my amp was ENGL and both together was vey good for metal, but impossible to keep the cleans clean at high volume on stage. Sold them both.

Now I mostly play Diezel Dmoll with Jackson Soloist 7 with passive DiMarzio PU, and cananot be much happier.
I get a huge variety of tones out of them, from brutal to country...

Here is a pic:

7 and 8 strings here with VH4 (and Herbert at home). Passive pickups are definitely my choice. One thing to keep in mind that nowadays there are also 7 and 8-string passive pickups in EMG-size housings available for neat swapping.

Hey thanks for all your anwers! I think I´ll go for an used Schecter and switch to passive PU´s! I´ll let you know when it´s done  Now the quest begins... :D

ich koennte nen bekannten nach seiner loomis zum ausleihen mal fragen. dann muesstest du nach neuwied in den proberaum kommen. bissl jammen, bierche... ;)

persoenlich spiele ich auch lieber passive pu's uebern herbert (haeussel)! alles andere ist too much.

I picked up a Les Paul once.
Then every Active pickup had to go.

The duncan blackouts aren't bad at all for actives and they'll fit in EMG sized holes. They are however really hight output.
