In a recent discussion about another new EVH a-2 PAF pickup we go into talking about the Mighty Mite 1400(9k) ceramic magnet pickup as well as the PAF Ed supposedly used as well. There are two recorded shows from just out of the studio recording of VH1 10/15/1977 Album release party and then later in the tour after the European and Japan leg of the 78 tour the Selland Arena show 9/22/1978. I wanted to set up a poll but I didn't see a good way to poll both shows in one thread so just log what pickup you think was used in each show in the Franky strat guitar only.

I know what my ears hear but I am curious how others hear it.

So here are the two shows... what pickup is being used PAF or Mighty Mite 1400 or other?

10/15/77 Album release party

9/22/78 Selland Arena Fresno Ca show

In the destroyer pre shark was Ibanez Super 70s and later shark Mighty Mite whether it be a 1300 or 1400, who knows.

For the black and white Frankie , I've seen pics of so many different pickups install, again, who knows?

I’ve always thought that his PAF collection was used most….or, the one he pulled from his 335 and older LP. But maybe they squealed too much.

Ibanez Super 70 for the win !

That's in the Ibanez explorer that became the Shark..... Franky only and specifically these two shows only!

Here's what my ears tell me......

Album release party 10/15/77 I also have seen the date of this show as 12/20/77 but I think the 10/15/77 is more correct.
Pickup used= Mighty Mite 1400(9k) possibly a 1300(13K)

Selland Arena Show Fresno 9/22/78
Pickup used=Gibson PAF or possibly a Seymour PAF rewind????????????

As I believe Seymour had not rewound it for ED yet until after the 78 tour from all the interview timelines out there. He was back in Cali in the fall it is possible Seymour wound something for ED by the time the Selland arena show hit. Ed was still using the MXR 6 band and sometimes the BOss GE10 to push long cable lengths.

That Fresno show is straight FIRE!
And that show isn't even with Ed's 12301 Marshall since they were still missing from the airline losing them coming back from Japan. You can easily see they are standard 70's Marshall and Musicman HD130's and 65 amps to theleft of Ed.

So, I think we can rule out the

Most early pics of the Frankie had various pickups, most with a standard screw/slug bobbin configuration. If someone can find one with double hex rows, you can tell the difference between a Dimarzios and Mighty Mite by the bobbin mold
