8 string guitar recommendations

My son is employed with some dudes who are into the 8 string guitars. Now he wants an 8 string. I think they all have man crushes on Tim Henson or something but whatever. I told him he can get one but he's going to have to be playing some blues on that around here or Ima throw him out.

Anyways I know jack about 8 strings. How many strings do they have? :LOL: Not even sure how you tune one. I was looking at a Schecter Omen Elite 8 for about 800 bucks new at Sweetwater. Seems real nice and I have heard good things about Schecter. He was playing a cheap-o Ibanez 8 string at GC for $450 last night and I recommended he wait and maybe buy something a little better if he really wants to get into it. I told him to get a pedal steel instead but he won't listen so I need some recommendations. He has some testosterone depleting guitar rig pro 7 stuff on his 'puter so I guess that's an "amp" for now. Anyways, this will give me some good bonding time plus I can make fun of him too since he can barely play a guitar at all. He has perfect pitch and I don't, so I get angry about that and this will give me a chance to take it out on him.

Should he get a fan fret model? What should I be looking for beyond stuff you'd check on a normal 6 string? I guess I could go into GC and check a few out but I feel dirty even handling them. :LOL:

I know @NowYou'rePlayingWithPower is a connoisseur of fine 8 strings and I think there are couple other guys here into them so I'm all ears for recommendations. I told him I would ask you guys. Max budget, 1k new or used. Thanks and please don't take offense to my retarded humor!!!
 
I play all 8 string in my band and teach 8 string . Get that boy to me pronto . RG228 still is all I need . I bought 3 . @NowYou'rePlayingWithPower you still have to send me my Christmas present . Don’t finger me this year lol fr

Truthfully I had to look it up but I knew where Georgia was on the map so once I saw that it was an "ah" moment. Would love to visit that part of the world but truthfully know very little about Azerbaijan. It would be cool if you made a thread on it sometime and shared photos. I like learning about new places.

I honestly don’t go around and take pictures a lot, and when I do, they are not too pretty.

To put it short, quite a full package, from beaches to snowy mountains tops. And you probably seen some pictures of Baku unknowingly. I mean I could elaborate…

…if I get a Christmas present 😂
