My guitar tech is really talking up Suhr guitars from the feel, balance to the tone. He also knows I won't spend $2000 for a bolt on guitar! So, he says Suhr makes a series of USA made guitars that are around $1000. Where are these? I can't find any! The Suhr site no longer exists, so where do we get info on Suhr guitars? Everytime I try to get to the Suhr website, it freezes and I have to close Internet Explorer. My tech says he experiences the same issue.

So, is there a Suhr guitar site? Does he make inexpensive, well made guitars?

The mystery continues.........

He is probably thinking the Suhr Rasmus line is made in the US, afaik - they are made overseas and finished here and come in at 1K. There is a used M1? modern in the classified for $1600 you could get, I've got the same model and they are killer!

For $1600, I could get a PRS DGT, used McCaty or another CE-22. Heck, I could get a new or used Fender Strat for $999 or less. I have played Suhr guitars and don't find them any better than a USA Fender. :(

Yes the Rasmus line is around 1k but they're made overseas. I played a few and thought they were...ok. If you want a Suhr for a good price look for a used Pro Series, you can get them around $1,500.

One thing with companies like Suhr, Anderson is they're pretty consistant. Whenever I played some Fenders at GC most of them feel like shit with a few that are better than the others. Most every Suhr or Anderson gets built with much more attention to detail. Some Fenders have gaps in the neck pocket you could drive a Mack truck through and you'll never see that on a Suhr or Anderson.

And Fender pumps out strats like McDonalds does with Big Macs so there's going to be more than a few duds getting through whatever QC they may have, and I expect their QC isn't anywhere as intensive as the smaller companies.

Agreed. I have fantastic Stratocasters,but........I had to go through a lot of them to get where I am today.
I'm positive that you can pick up any nice Suhr and its a great guitar.
More attention paid to all aspects if the building process at Suhr. It's just not possible for Fender.

If you like fender strats as much as Suhrs, congratulations, you just saved yourself $1000. To me, my Suhrs destroy all the fenders I have had in the past. In particular, my Suhr tele is miles better than my 97 fender American standard was. It's really not even close. To me, I hear and feel a massive difference.

But if you've already played Suhrs and determined they aren't worth it to you, then what is the point of this thread? Enjoy the extra cash you have laying around as a result on something else and call it a day.

Agreed!!

I play Suhr's (Pro Series S2's) because I know the quality under the paint(2 piece bodies), necks and bodies fitted together.... and workmanship! You never know what you're going to get with Fender these days (3 to 4 pieces of wood)....

That's why I don't mind paying for and owning SLO's! They are quality inside and out, the company is small and original, and the tones are killer and low volumes and high volumes.

When people are always looking for a "deal" on cheaper gear and not so much centered on quality and longevity, then that's why there is Peavey, EVH, Fender, Jet City....Hyundai etc. That is the target market. These are great products for the short term....but not really a LONG TERM investment item like Rolex, Soldano, Suhr, Anderson, Diezel...etc.

Just my .002 cents, but thats how i look at it.

Another vote for Suhr Pro Series. S'What Fender SHOULD have done. My American Strat is great, but my Suhr S4 is PHENOMENAL!

I've had the chance to play a Rasmus Guthrie Govan sig vs his Suhr model and couldn't tell any difference tonally or physically. YES I KNOW THERE ARE DIFFERENCES but they felt just like the same instrument and rocked. They sell out hella fast here, which is a good thing I think. We need more AMAZING guitars for not $4k.

Not to start world war three or anything but i agree here - I picked up a USA and MIJ charvel after playing a few suhr maple neck/rosewood combinations and was shocked that if i were blind folded i would not be able to tell the difference between either of them for tone, neck quality, finish, sound, etc.

Suhr's are great guitars but i have not picked one up that has come close to a TA. The Charvel's are worth their weight in gold. And no - i do not own one.

I own alll of the above (Suhr, TA, Fender, Fender CS, Charvel, MIJ Charvel) and there is most certainly a difference. If you can't tell it may be more about you as a player than the guitars. The Suhrs are clearly the winners for me, with TA second and everything else a distant third. Your mileage may vary but every single Suhr plays and sounds consistent. If you dont own em and you play 5 minutes in the store then you really arent in a position to judge IMO!

I have a Suhr, Anderson and Fender. All three are equally nice, although I had to get my Fender re-radiused and refretted before it was close to being in the same league.

Same way I feel. "For $1,600, I could get blah, blah, blah..." Well, then go do it already! Sounds to me like he just wanted to start a thread to bad-mouth Suhr. "I won't spend $2K+ for a bolt on!"....I can't tell you how STUPID that sounds every time I hear someone say that. I'd take a bolt on over a neck thru ANYDAY. It's all a matter of preference. But, to assume that a guitar isn't worth that price, just because it's a bolt on....how lame. And, I've actually got a $1,000 Rasmus guitar....and while it's not as nice as my Suhrs, it actually sounds and plays somewhat close to the real thing. Not a bad guitar whatsoever, but definitely not for some CORK SNIFFER. Richedie's posts remind of someone from the TGP board.
