I finally found this place and figured I'd contribute, since I'm really digging my M4 lately.
It's currently loaded with DLX, VOX, SL2, and EG5.

Some clips I'd previously made with modules I may no longer own:
EBMM Axis, M4, Marshall 2203 Power amp (Loop), Bogner 4x12 V30, 609.

Joe those are great clips man. I love those sounds. That Vox sounds too good.

Wow Joe, awesome clips! Sounds terrific and great playing too

Nice clips man!

Just curious, are you running the M4 into the loop return on the 2203 for the power amp?
I was considering using a rack-mounted Mesa Mark IV instead of adding another amp to my rack...

Thanks!

Yup, M4 into a Suhr modded 2203 loop return.
Great power amp!
Thanks for the comments guys.

Joe

my fave was the eg34

smooth with just the right bite.

tonally similiar to the sl but with thicker mojo.

can the sl2 cop the eg34 fatness?

i'm curious. i have the EG5 and SL2. I am curious to how everyone compares the EG5 vs the MHG, and the SL2 vs. the EG3/4.

Aeroic,

You'll see alot of comparisons on these very modules in many threads, but to summarize:

1) EG5 vs. MHG - similar amounts of gain and clarity, but EG5 is voiced with more high-mids. EG5 was born out of tweaks of MHG to improve cut. Most of us who had MHGs have replaced them with EG5 and are even happier!

2) SL2 vs EG3/4 - similar amount of gain and both in the "modded marshall" vein, but EG3/4 is darker and smoother. A little more "brown"

Hey Joe,

I enjoyed these when I first heard them back at HRI, and I still think they're great man!

Matt:

Thanks for the heads up. I've just been going back and forth w/ the EG3/4 if I want to get one. I use the SL2 mainly for a crunchy rhythm (lower gain) on channel A, and for my lead tone on Channel B (gain around 2-3 o'clock). I'm just curious to which one I will like better. The EG5 is killer, and I love it for my heavier rock sound. I use the T/D and VX for cleans and some more straight up rock sounds. I found that the SL2 channel A module takes effects VERY VERY well (trems, phasers, proctavia), where the EG5 sounds best just by itself.

I did change the tubes on the modules to all Tung Sol 12ax7's. I know on other topics you mentioned 9th Gen Chinese tubes in V2 of the modules. Which Chinese do you recommend, or will I see a drastic diffference between tung sol 12ax7's and chinese in V2.

Also, have you done a comparison between the COD / EG3/4?

Thanks,
Eric

There is absolutely no comparison with these to modules, completely different, besides Matt has my COD :D

That's what i figured about the comparison b/n the eg3/4 and cod. i have the cod and it is awesome! not a sound I'd use everyday, but still its got some bad a$$ bluesy tones ;).

Yep,and the leads with a tad of delay is outrageous,CODelicious :D

Its been awhile since Ive heard an EG3/4 but I have Jason's COD right now. Based on memory, I also wouldnt say they are close at all. The COD is a very strange module and for me, its the hardest Eggie module to dial-in. Most of them you can set pretty much at noon and still have great tone, but the COD is much trickier. Its really Smoooooooth and I wouldnt play any sort of rhythm on it. It definitely has a feel Im not used to as a hard rock player. But like Jason says, my Timefactor LOVES the COD. Some delay with that and youve got a killer sound for leads. It definitely does the Andy Timmons "Resolution" album thing.

For the music I play, theres just no room for a COD in a MOD 50, but the E2 might change that...

EG3/4 Id use for anything I use my SL2 for. Driving rhythms and ripping leads. I just remember preferring the SL2 because it had more bite and screams more.

That Vx sounds flat out amazing..I have GAS for it and my M4 isn't even here yet ;)

Are you getting the dual?

Yes, caught a used one s/h from mtsforum :D
SAWEET!The duals are super cool!

Been trying to get one for a while...guess I really wanted a MOD50 to pair with my RM50....at any rate just needed more slots than 2 :D

I may try and trade the M4 for a MOD50 later down the road
