Need to find a new mixer for my acoustic project. I am hoping to go with a small board that has onboard effects, and pick up some powered 12's. Not sure what powered speakers I'll end up with, will depend on budget, etc. 3-4 vocals, 2 guitars, 1 bass for the acoustic project. I would love for it to cross over and replace the board for the rock band as well but not sure I can swing a board with enough channels and powered speakers at the moment.

Anyone use A&H stuff and have any input?

I've got an old A&H 16, at the time it was about the best without breaking the bank. Fairly decent phantom etc. etc.

Used to be a good crowd over at HC in the Live forum, who knows now?

One of my buds had the Bose on a stick stuff, and was pretty impressive for sound vs size. No idea on how many inputs?

Older Allen & Heath gear enjoyed a great reputation. The newer low-end (less-expensive, lower channel count) consoles have had some reliability issues - at least that's what I commonly saw when I was researching PA gear a little more than a year ago. I ultimately went with a Yamaha console. It's made overseas like a lot of the manufacturers do these days, but had outstanding reviews when it came to quality and reliability.

When you start looking for powered speakers, a pair of QSC KW122's on stands would be perfect for something like that. If you need a little more low-end, the KW153's would be the choice.

I'm not just a QSC fan, I rock the shit out of them every weekend :D

I've been using the A&H ZedR16 as the central part of my studio for the past couple of years. This is the firewire board though, different than what you are looking at. I absolutely love it.
I also have a pair of RCF ART312A speakers that really do the job, might be something to look into for speakers.

I have a ZED-14 USB--awesome, versatile mixer, and can also be used as an interface for a DAW via USB.

They make a ZED-14FX I believe... Highly recommend!!

Man this is ironic. I've got an acoustic project as well and i was looking at the zed12fx too. I just recently purchased a couple of powered EV 12" speakers and was looking for a small mixer as well.

Which EV's did you go with? I was looking at powered speakers online yesterday and was wondering if the carvin pm12a's would do the trick? Yeah Carvin I know, but from the specs they look to be on par with other brands and much more reasonably priced.

That new 60-14fx mixer has two channels that are for guitars that supposedly eliminates having to use a DI box, pretty cool feature.

I just recently got a A&H ZED-16FX which is the same family as what you are looking at and so far I love it. I'm new to mixers and so I don't have any thoughts about how it compares to other types of mixers. This mixer is the heart of my mancave and I've got everything (and I DO mean everything! :D ) hooked into it except for my guitars. The mic pre's work well enough for me. The effects are fine, but certainly not top of the line. Most (all?) crowds wouldn't know the difference I am sure.

I chose the route of passive monitors (Mackie C200) through a relatively inexpensive crown power amp. Super happy with the entire setup....

Man.. trying to drive a mixer is a lot like sitting in the cockpit of a 747. I've got sooo much left to learn.

So still learning about mixers and ran across a SoundCraft MFXi8/12 with built in lexicon effects. I don't think the SC has usb out, but it's got more pre's and stellar effects at the same price point as the Zed12fx.

Any opinions on SoundCraft vs A&H?

i love soundcraft, and have used the k2, vienna, gb-4, and series 5, and typically prefer it's sound over allan heath consoles, which i have mixed on several times as well, as recently as sept. of this year

with harman as the parent company of soundcraft, lexicon, jbl, bss, dbx, akg, crown, and studer, you have a strong product that integrates well with the rest of the leaders in live sound equipment land. lexicon verb is the best. dbx has the best live bag for buck compressors. jbl is cornering the line array speaker market. i love and use bss soundweb dsp for our room tuning, crossover, and network distribution although some of the high end dbx driverack dsps are nothing to sneeze at.

i ran sound yesterday on a yamaha ls9 digital console for a few hours, with their integrated rev-x reverb, then drove across town and hopped over to my normal soundcraft series 5 analog with outboard lexicon pcm 91, and let's just say it's always good to come home. i am really curious about the new yamaha CL series though

The more I read about the MFXi8 the more I like it. And the lexicon effects are tipping me in that direction as well...

How about the Mackie ProFX series? Seem like solid boards as well.

I bought a Presonus 24.4.2 mixer for my band and loved it. I left my band for 1 year and sold it, when I rejoined the band later on my 2nd guitar player bought a Soundcraftmen 24i and although it had lots of busses and more effects than Presonus was better for half the price. You could get the 16.2.2, it has compression, gate,eq in all the channels including the auxes and busses. I also has 2 FX's plus you can hook up a Lap Top and record all the channels. As far as speakers I had good experience with the QSC K12. They also have the K10,K8 and also newer models. The QSC are loud and clean and worked well in many places we played imcluding outside gigs.
