I teach high school social studies. I was going through an Economics book and found this little tidbit:

"One of the first to sell used goods online was Gibson Guitar Company. The company offered older-model, used guitars for sale on the Web for sale in 1996. Gibson's site was a huge success, in large part due to the celebrated reputation of its products."

Is this true? Do they still do it? I wouldn't think a company like Gibson would get into the used business.

Yeah, not the most exciting subject I know.

I vaguely remember this, I think. I'm kind of curious about it. I don't think much came of it.

Nowadays they destroy their old instruments. My current 335 is a replacement for a faulty one. When I asked them what happened to the original one they said "We chopped it up."

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

By the way- the guy was right. It didn't work then, and it wouldn't work now.
