A Perfect Circle?

Hey guys,

We are going to be covering "Judith" by APC. The EG3/4 sounds pretty good for this with some heavy delay. Maybe the Erect as well. Do you guys hear any other effects going on with this song? Sounds like an Octave effect but the closest I have is a Detune effect. Tuning is weird so I can't even play along to the CD.

I realize I need a slide for this tune. You guys know if you can get cheap slides? I never use a slide but need one for this song. Maybe I can find something at home to use!

I think he used a whammy pedal in a couple parts of that song. I agree the EG3/4 is the ticket for that tone.

I've used some bizarre things for slides since I never seem to have one handy when I need it. I did a show a while back where I just used a spare 9v battery as a slide. Worked fine. ;)

He uses a cloned Marshall cranked up REALLY high, and then he turns it down in the mix and over lays the tracks an insane amount of times.

You can easily cover Howerdale's part without a slide. To me it gets in the way and isn't worth the trouble when we play it.

The other guitartist may use a whammy in the studio on the small break/stop after the chorus, but live he doesn't.

Billy likes his saturated chorus/reverb but other than that, there isn't much going on in the song. You won't need it.

He uses a modded JCM 800 or cloned version of one. Same guy that did Adam Jone's Superbass head mods. Billy always plays a Les Paul. Stay off the high E. He also plays it tuned to C# standard, not dropped.

Steve, thanks.

So you guys play this song? You don't use a slide? I just picked up a $5 Dunlop silde today but would prefer to not use it. Who is the other guitarist in the studio? I thought it was all Billy other than live? I saw them live but didn't pay attention to see if he used a slide.

So, you hear him using a lot of chorus even on his distorted tones? I could only hear mostly delay. I am using a good amount of delay and a tiny amount of reverb for it.

What did you mean when you said, "there isn't much going on in the song. You won't need it."
Won't need the slide or delay?

Stay off the high E. What do you mean, stay off the high E?
I assumed it was dropped C#, not standard. I know he is playing the 5th and 6th strings at the 2nd and 3rd fret during part of the verse so this song must be dropped. No?

Never heard about clone of Marshall! I read that Billy used and still using modded by Dave Friedman Marshalls. Basically this mod is Naylor SD-60 preamp with Marshall JMP-100 power amp. It called Naked mod. Dave is available on his section of forum so you can ask him about it.

Correct

Billy has used a dave friedman Naked amp on all APC albums. Its is based off the naylor and Marshall as stated. Who knows, Dave may be doing a run of those amps in the near future. What do u guys think?
