So, I found a good deal on a Brand New Twin Jet, from a store.

However, in order to get it to be a good deal, i would be buying the regular grill, not the Metal Grill.

Now, I know it is just cosmetics, but...
I read that the grills are NOT interchangeable.
Is this correct? so if i wanted the metal grill, i would have to buy a whole new amp housing???

What are the Twin Jet's going for used?

I can't find any for sale anywhere other than the one i found. Just want to make sure for sure I am getting an ok deal.

whatcha think...should I wait for the Metal Grill one, or just get the cloth grill and call it a day?
It's not like it affects the tone at all....

I am one of the strange ones, I did not want the metal grill, love the look of the cloth. Classy looking to me, and I think the cloth grill adds some more mids to the tone

+1...I prefer the cloth grill. If I was in a metal band, though, this wouldn't be 'metal' enough.

Here's a picture of the head I am about to buy...

He's got the cab too, but I am not going to buy it...too much for shipping...

One thing about metal grills, they invite dust, bugs and all sorts of shit inside the amp. Mine is metal.

I've read about people changing the grills on their Bogners. Bogner says you can't do it, but I'm fairly certain you can.

I bought my Twin jet a year ago for $2300. Now they're probably a little less than that, but I'd imagine still above the $2000 mark.

yeah, above the 2000 mark, but i still bought it anyways.

and brand new.
kind of.
3 weeks old.

so...

I bought it.
I guess i own a Bogner now too.

Congratulations, I hope you enjoy it as much as I love mine.

You can put a metal grill on the headshell. The only problem is the mounts for the cloth grill headshells don't have tolex on them, so you need to paint them black, or do what I did and use black duct tape (actually looks like tolex and you can't tell the difference). I've done this on 3 XTCs/Ubers. You can get the metal grill through a dealer for $159.

So.
I got my Twin Jet in today.

Couple of things.
First...
I noticed, in Standby, I can still hear some audio. very low, but...is this normal?

2nd. my ears hurt. This bugger is really loud!

3rd. volume definitely changes the tone.

It's Tight. and It's not. at the same time. many different ways to do different and same things achieve different results.

Lot's off Treble, or Presence in there...Lots of harmonic overtones in Ch.2, for sure.
Ch.1 is like a super crunch. I like it.

Ch.2 will take me a little while to figure out i guess. I felt like it was a noisy over the top gainy bassy channel. Just lots of noise going on there...

Ch.1 was tamer. If i don't end up recording with the Axe-FX I'm getting, I will be recording my upcoming album with ch.1...it seemed kind of like what I was searching for, for the punk sound I wanted, that I wasn't getting from my VH4, or Mark V. More similar to my Marshalls, but more Oomph, and better tone. Not so shrieky or shrill.

I almost feel like I could use just a hair more gain on ch.1 Not as much as ch.2, but just a hair more...I feel like I am running it pretty high...almost all the way up for it to crunch up the way I want.

This amp does remind me of my Dual Rectifier, in a way. (mine, pre-500, doesn't sound like modern recto's).
Raw, and beefy, kind of tight, nice tone. However, I don't see this getting lost in a band mix like some Recto's can, because there are a lot of mids in here...I normally run my mids around 3'oclock on most amps...had to turn it lower than that on the TJ.

I would say so far...for the few minutes I got to play it, I like it so far...

Once I figure out the EQ section it should be fun!

Get the 88's out if they are in there. Its hard to get rid of the sound of breaking glass otherwise. Go back with a quad of SED Winged C 34's. I got a post on here somewhere how to do it and get the piggybacked bias resistor off so it will bias with 34's. Bogner made it easy.

Which store had the cab?

Oh, and congrats. Welcome to the club........
Steve

No store. I'll just go down the street to TM
Maybe Reinhold can walk one over.

Add a clean boost to take channel 1 over the top while bringing the actual amp gain back. Channel 1 is where I live on this thing most of the time. However my Channel 2 is pretty quiet overall for a high gain amp, quiet as in hiss and bad stuff, not tone and good stuff LOL.

Glad your digging it, and with the music you described I can see why you like Channel 1 a lot, try a clean boost and you will love it I promise. Also as Steve_K said the EL34's will make it even better!!!
