My truss today adjustment tool came in today and so I figured I'd give it a whirl, without going overboard.

I took everyone's advice and loosened strings a bit and made slight adjustments, probably more like a 1/8th turn, if that. After one slight adjustment, I tuned back up and saw it adjusted quite a bit and was low action. Taking advice though, I waited a bit. Good thing I did because it went back up a few measurements.

Since it went back up, I was able to adjust another slight turn. I repeated the process and then decided to back it off the other way a nudge. Perfect! Went from the "high" action you guys saw to "medium" which i think is a good spot for feel and projection.

Everyone gave great advice and know it varied but everyone was correct and no wrong answers so to speak. I researched more and saw that as mentioned, sanding the saddle piece on a Martin is one way people adjust the action. Since I only needed a slight drop, the truss rod adjustment worked. I can see where people would need to be careful though or everything could get jacked up.

We’re you drunk when you typed this up?

Here’s my experience with truss rods. I’ve cranked the living shit out of a lot of rods and never have I broken one or fucked anything up. Wood bends. Don’t be so timid.
Any truss rod you have to "crank the living shit out of" is a problem neck IME with several twisted and warped necks. A truss rod should adjust reasonably smoothly or it's time to look at other potential issues with the neck. I've never seen a properly set up neck from the factory that required radical adjustment.

I once straightened an old fucked up guitar neck by soaking it for a couple days in a tub of water and then hanging weights off it in strategic places while it dried out.
