i have a herbert and am tired of tap dancing. i just want to get a pedal, probably either the line 6 m13 or Tc Nova system.

I am not sure if i can set them up to change channels on the herbert and presets in the pedal. This is my first venture into midi so im pretty confused and would love a basic description on how to go about programing either my prostage x07 to change patches on the m13 or nova OR have the m13 or nova change amp preset. I just want to push 1 button and have my amp change and effects change.

It almost pains me to go to a multi effect but tired of the tap dancing. just planning on using the pedal for modulation delay and reverb in my effects loop.

dont want to do a rack either, i already have a really nice headshell and dont want to carry another case around. and i dont run a stereo rig.

any advice on which to go with would be awsome too!!

I would greatly appreciate any help

I know both can be done, but unfortunately I do not own either of those mentioned equipment thus making it a bit difficult to say in detail how to do it. Im sure that it will not be difficult at all - Esp. Herbert will be very simple to program, but the Line6 stuff is some times a bit more "stubborn".

In general, what you need to sort out first are the following:
- which way you want your setup to be working (M13 controlling Herbert and Nova or X07 controlling Herbert, Nova and M13)
- what midi channels are Herbert, Nova and M13 using (the channel can be changed)
- it might also be a good idea to create e.g. two example presets which to use for learning how to do the programmin

After you know how your setup will be constructed, what you will need to do then is to:
- connect the audio signal path
- connect the MIDI signal path
- configure and save the presets in all equipment involved

I think reading the manuals will be helpful also.

So start be deciding how you want to connect yout equipment and lets continue from there.
By that time maybe someone who own M13 happens to arrive to help also.

This is not exactly an answer to what you're asking, but if you're worried about going digital you could use a switcher/looper like THIS one that will allow you to control both your amp and stompboxes.

With this particular model for example, you can run 5 loops (ex. phaser, flanger, delay etc.) and your amp's channels (and other MIDI functions too, like "Mute" etc.) at the same time creating presets you can recall in banks of 5 switches; it can also provide power to 9v pedals. In this way you can easily control your rig retaining the analog quality of your favourite stompboxes. There's also a bigger model if you need more loops (link).

You can find a lot of similar products, for example: G-Lab GSC-3, Musicom Lab EFX MKII, Providence PEC-2, Brunetti Vector, Voodoo Lab Pedal Switcher + Commander.

Hope this helps

well i dont want to do the pedals with a switcher like the gcx or martin combinator. just want to get away from pedals and simplify my rig.

So im thinking i could just remove the prostage x07 and just use the effect pedal to set up complete presets with amp and effects settings! so then i would probably have more than 7 presets that the x07 offers!

just not sure which direction to go, just want to simplify things and the herbert and a couple of midi cables should do it, right?

Thanks for any help

Get a Rocktron Midi Mate, and if you need pedals or something, get a Rocktron Patchmate 8 or VooDoo GCX.

Let me know if you need config info!

Cheers,

I too went through the same pain, my friend. I ditched all of my pedals and haven't looked back.

So.....I have the Line 6 M13 and I love it! By far the best effects unit/multi-switcher I have used in years. Easy to use and works fantastic with the Herbert! It also features a true bypass setup. You can run it with the 4 cable method and have some of your effects running into the front of the Herbert (ie. flange, phase)_ and have the other effects such as delay and chorus running in the loop of the Herbert. All you need is 4 good quality cables.

It took me no time at all to figure out how to use the unit and it switches all of the channels on my Herbert as well as the mid-cut and, loop and mute. You save your effect setups as scenes and you have a wonderful setup that works amazing in either the serial or parallel loop.

This is one of those pieces that I am very happy that I purchased and will be keeping it for the long haul. I also have an Ernie ball 56K expression pedal as well which controls my Wah on the Line 6 M13 which equally works amazingly well!

Don't get into all these other expenses buying a ground control, gcx, etc. You run more wires, you invite more noise.

The M13 with the system update that you do via a midi interface also adds a pile of new effects.....one of those is the Pitchglide which literally allows you to drop your tuning by steps and there is no artifact or delay in it like the Morpheus drop tune pedal introduces. It has saved me bringing several guitars live to only one.

It's a fantastic device! PM me if you have any setup info needed.
