I think I'm going to go for the clean amp + pedals route for now, and I want something Dumbleish that can give me Mayer tones and sound great with the miriad of amazing distortion pedals that are available these days.

I could buy a Suhr Hedgehog or a Two Rock Classic Reverb and call it a day, but I'm actually more of a gain player and I don't feel comfortable spending that crazy amount of money for clean amps (they cost like 4K here).

The bare maximum I want to spend is like 2300 euros more or less (I'm from Europe, so that excludes Ceriatone stuff). In that price range I have considered the Suhr Bella, but I don't know how close to a Dumble/Mayer sound can it get. Somebody with experience on this amp can give me an answer on that?

Other amp suggestions?

How does being in Europe exclude the Ceriatones? The Overtones probably are the perfect thing here and can certainly be at your door for less than 2300 euros.

No idea about the Suhr, sorry.

You could try to get a Kitty Hawk Standard from the 80s. Could be in your price region, but most probably needs service if not already properly restored. Kitty Hawk imported Boogies and Dumbles in the early 80s to europe, had transformers made in europe and copied the circuitry. Still they have their own thing, but are close (at least the standard is close to a Dumble).

Other than that: every now and then I do see Dumble clones for sale on a german DIY builders forum.

You can only play da Blews w/a Dumble if ur a Doctor or Dentist on TGP, sorry.

Or a good clean (Fender) combo and some pedals . . .

I suppose it's the lazy/insecure in me that hesitates to be involved with all the stuff that comes with buying overseas. It's easier to just go to a local store and tell them what you want.

Ceriatone now has some kind of clone of the Two Rock Mayer signature, I could give that some thoughts I guess.

Hahahaha.

I could buy a Suhr Hedgehog or a Two Rock Classic Reverb if I want it and Im just euro middle class trash, and americans have it cheaper. Hell, the Hedgehog it's tempting me so much Im probably end up buying it, it's just that I'm more of a high gain player. I don't even have a guitar with single coils right now, so I'll have to buy the amp plus a Strat.

Depend which Mayer tone you looking for. He uses a Bandmaster, a Dummble SSS and his sig. Two Rock, for different tones.

Maybe the cheapest alternative is the Mesa Lonestar. Have great cleans, and a good dirty channel.

I always supossed when people talked about Mayer tone, they were refering the Slow Dancing/Gravity stuff, at least those are the tones Im refering (Belief also).

The Lonestar Classic sounds great, I heard some video with it doing Slow Dancing that sounded plenty close, but they are a little bit out of my price range. Maybe I need to check some stores and try to find a deal.

The Suhr Hedghog sounds awesome too for Mayer stuff:

But its already 1000 euros more expensive.

Bella is a killer single channel amp. Has a great loop and takes pedals very well. Hedge is their spin on a Dumble, no personal experience but looks/sounds awesome. But don't over look a deluxe reverb or super reverb depending on how much wattage you need maybe twin reverb if you looking to peel some paint.

I'd check out the ceriatone stuff. Great value and they sound awesome.

fuchs amps will get it done, great amp for this playing style.

Get a Fender.

Which Fender has Dumble cleans?

I'd go with a Twin and the pedals you mentioned.

I have never played one, but I don't think it can get me Mayer cleans?

Fuchs amps sound awesome, but they are as expensive as a Two Rock Classic Reverb or a Suhr Hedgehog.

Ask this guy, he built and designed the Dumble. Mr. Howard Dumble.
