Aggressive Marshall Plexi type amps

I have a JVM410 and old UK DSL100.

I have had a Splawn Street Rod for a week now.

The Street Rod just has that old school missing link. It has a great bite if you choose to play to cut in a mix. It has that modded Marshall sound I always heard on albums but could not find.

So far it has been very worth the coin.

Sounds great at loud in the house volumes and money at cranked volumes!

Will give it a shot in a simple wet dry rig with the DSL 100 as the wet amp tomorrow.

I played it with my rectoverb combo and it was perfect as the cutting Marshall tone to compliment the Recto chug.

The Ceriatone Son of Yeti I'm building should qualify.. Gonna watch a lot of car races and do BBQ today... so I don't plan on doing a lot to the amp. :D

Chupacabra was fantastic. I've always been curios how the Yeti really compares. Only two issues I had with the Chupa was that it wasn't really a "tight" amp and it was a touch too bright sometimes, but not always. If it had a bit less sag to it, it would have been perfect. I might have to build one...

I own two Plexi style amps and really dig them both.. A Splawn Street Rod in head form and a Friedman SS100...both are different enough from each other to satisfie me.... For the cost the Street Rod is hard to beat! it's a great small venue amp! The SS is a Beast and the clean channel is Fantastic I'll never part with either.

I think that a lot of the amps mentioned so far only partially resemble the plexi tone. Great aggressive plexi tones can be found in a good plexi clone with a PPIMV hit with a clean boost.

the aggression comes from the player, not the amp. The question does not compute, therefore no logical answer can be given LOL

I'm digging my Helios !
My favorite amp for the type you mention .
I am a Bogner fan have an Ecstacy , had an uberschall.

I havent heard one in person, but the new Metroplex from Metropoulos amps sounds dead on to an aggressive Plexi style amp. From the sound of the clips and the reviews that are out there that amp is a monster!

My favorite is my Jose modded 1987x. I'm glad nobody bought it when I had it listed in the classifieds.

THANKS FOR THIS MAN! So much for the friedman BE being my favorite

Shit, a nice 69-72 will get as aggressive as you could need without any mods or even pedals. Pedals come in handy for the ones that just didn't get that flamethrower secret ingredient.

Don't forget about a FJA modded plexi. They just frigging rip!

+1 on this. The Chupacabra is a great amp.

I think you have owned one of these before already but it is a no brainer... a Randall RM100 or Lynchbox head with any of the following modules (correct spec of course) : SL+, Plexi, Brahma, Mr. Scary.

I only have two...one is Friedman Modded.

and the other is Fortin Modded.

Both are excellent.

These sound great Reza. The Friedman has that Plexi "sizzile" while very aggressive in the mids and the Fortin has that darker "grunt". Both amazing. I own a BE100 and Quick Rod but they both have a little more going on in the main tones than just the aggressive plexi sound, but I'd say the more authentic open plexi aggressive snarl comes out of the BE100, with all the tone mods this amp is my taste of the ultimate modded "aggressive Plexi" amp. My Quick Rod is JCM800 from hell tone with Gear 1 "Splawns" attempt at a plexish tone, still sounds great.

From the clips I've heard, the Metro-Plex seems to nail a more traditional aggressive Plexi tone more so than most the amps out now days, if that's your thing. Well, how could that not be your thing, Plexi tones rule the rock world.
