I can never get this sound dialed in right. The guitar is tuned down 1/2 step but the phaser/flanger and delay time remain a mystery to me. I have a digitech RP 255 so I have all the options but I am new to it.

Anyone have and input on this..

I set delay for digital at .380 with 1 echo at 40%
The phaser AFU (all F***ed up) I cannot figure it out HELP???

THANKS in advance and sorry if this seems like a dumb question.

Delay is prob close, phase is a tricky one tho but whatever the regen knob on the pedal is at barely on is what I always used. Don't forget to add a lil verb to it as well.

Well first thing's first; he's kicking on a flanger, not a phaser. ;) If you really want to nail this, just get the MXR EVH.

Delay is actually two delays, each set for one repeat. The first one is at ~100ms and the second one is at ~300ms. The key, though, is the mix: if I recall my settings, the 100ms is mixed higher (more prominently). This really makes his percussive attack of the opening arpeggiated chords really 'pop'. Mixed with the less prominent delay at 300ms gets you a really cool effect -- kind of like out-of-phase windshield wipers that catch up together every three turns or so. I'm not familiar with your RP 255, but for instance, the Eventide Timefactor can easily pull this off.

Ed has recently said his Flanger settings are all knobs at noon. Nope. Doesn't sound right to me. But most knobs are close. Like 10-11:00. I've got a photo somewhere of his 2007 pedal board with his settings taped onto the pedal. I'll try to find it.

How authentic do you want to be? He put his echoplex in front of his amp. Helps make the repeats chunky. I tried it with regular delay. Made a difference.

Found 'em. Coincidentally the arrows are where my MXR Reissue knobs are.

Also his Phaser is always at 10:00. For everything.

that delay trick is a nice tip.

do you know if it's parallel or series delay?

Thanks all, I will be having some fun tonight. Never thought of adding Reverb, Thanks!

Well my guess is that in mine (Time Factor) its parallel since it's in stereo w/L/R outputs. Now that I think of it, though, it can probably set up either way? I don't know. In Ed's actual setup, I'd think it'd have to be series, right?

It's just an Echoplex set for 2 repeats and the Flanger is kicked on and off for the lower strings part in the riff.

Other analog/digital delays might sound ok but an Echoplex is an Echoplex.

Pete Thorn has a demo hanging around somewhere.

The Echoplex 2 repeats are on for the whole song.

The Phase is on for the solo and there is also an Electric Sitar in the solo.
