I have been listening to some of the older Loudness stuff lately (Thunder In The East, Lightning Strikes, and Hurricane Eyes) and damn does Akira smoke on these 3 LPs/CDs as well as Disillusion. He was one of my favs in the 80s in addition to Rhoads, Lynch, EVH and LeTekro.

Was a big fan of his back in the day as well. This guy is much in the same vein too, but never got the recognition that Akira did (at least in the states);

I seen Loudness and TNT open for Stryper in 87'.. Akira and Ronnie smoked

Awesome!!! I saw Loudness when they opened for Motley Crue on the Theater of Pain tour and they blew Motley Crue off the stage for the show in Detroit in 1985. I never had a chance to see Ronni!!

I saw this show as well at Alpine Valley in East Troy, WI. I concur that they blew the Crue of the stage.

This is a great thread. I bought Live Loud Alive in 83 and have followed him ever since. Great player, great tone. They went south in the 90's but so what. He's awesome

Akira ROCKS big time...seriously underrated player.
Starting to think I agree with metalmaniac93 on just about everything!

That's because the Crue were having too good a time offstage at that point in their career!

Oh boy!!! There must be something wrong with you if you do!! :loco: :loco: :loco:

Thanks though!!! :2thumbsup: I do love my hard rock/metal and have been listening to hard rock/metal since the mid 70's when I was just a little kid.

Same here....Saw Kiss in 79 when I was 9, AC/DC on the B&B tour when I was 10, VH in 1980....and so on.
I can't get enough of this stuff....30+ years later.

Always loved Akira's modded Marshall sounding tone! I can listen to Crazy Doctor all day!

MZA!

Yeah, I never got a change to go to concerts until 1981 and my first one was Pat Benatar at Pine Knob in Clarkston, MI. After that, it was all over!!! LOL!! I was a huge KISS fan up until 1980 when Unmasked was released and I lost all interest in them.

I still cannot get enough of the old stuff even though I do like some modern hard rock/metal and even the extreme stuff. There just has been something lacking in recent years with the hard rock/metal scene. Maybe it is just me?

It's not just you.today's hard rock metal lacks a lot IMO.
Gone are guitar solos like the ones from the 80's (aka EVH).
Gone are great songwriters like Lynott, Stradlin/Rose/Slash...etc
Everything was a big event in the 80's....waiting for the new albums to come out then going to buy cassettes/albums. Standing in line to buy tickets for shows, going to the shows....a lot of that is gone. It fueled the excitement for me...it was a national scene.
...some younger kids know I'm a veteran of the metal wars and ask about GNR, VH, Ozzy...I say yep they all can smoke Nickelback and that other recycled garbage you kids listen to. Most disagree but a few know I am right.

i like akira. my old guitar teacher turned me onto him back in the late 90's (john evosevic).

his killer guitars had a really awesome, unique tone too.

I was at that show! Drove down from Flint.

Loudness smoked. I went to the show to see them. Stayed for Crue.

I cannot stand Nickelback!!! Yeah, I agree that the guitar solos like the ones in the late 70s/80s are gone, but I do like some of the modern shredders like Jeff Loomis even though he has been around a while and I also really like some of the Scandanavian and European hard rock/metal. I am and have been a huge fan of Alice In Chains since Facelift.

Me too!! I was mainly there to see Akira and Loudness even though I was also a Crue fan.

Hell, I am such a huge fan of Akira that I went out and picked up the Japan remasters (Thunder In The East, Lightning Strikes, and Hurricane Eyes). Next is Disillusion. And yes, they sound excellent.
