Alder vs Mahogany? for shred/metal

which would you guys go with on a maple/neck/board?which is thick/beefier/meatier?
 
There is no surefire recipe. Some guitars are just better than others. Even the same make and models. All that said the best guitar i have ever played is a guitar i'm fortunate enough to own, my Suhr Modern Carve Top Custom. Maple neck and board, alder body and maple top

I like alder personally but it will really depend on the guitar.. Don't focus too much on it, just try the different guitars you're thinking about and decide with your ears. There's probably 50 different kinds of alder used among all guitar manufacturers...
