Hi, I am Andrea from Italy.
I am new in this forum.
I am searching for a modded Marshall and Cameron mods seem to be the best, together with the #39 Caswell mod.
But I am a little confused, I assumed reading the past topics, that both Aldrich and Jose' mods have a lot of gain, but wich is the difference between these modifications?
I saw one sold JCm with a bunch of backpanel option from Comp to loop to bass bost and so on and the ad said it was an Aldrich. Is the difference in these options?
Please let me know.
If anybody is selling some Cameron modded Marshall 50 watt I will seriously consider to buy, so please let me know.
Thanks a lot Andrea.

welcome!

Every amp mod that Mark does is a little different. Keep your eyes peeled on ebay and here ... they pop up every now and then. They are both great sounds, the aldrich being a little more modern and hairy, the Jose being smoother and chewy....

Andrea,

I'm sure you are going to get a ton of responses as many that surf this forum own or have owned many Camerons. I'll give you my take having played the Jose, I currently have an Aldrich and a #39 Caswell. The Aldrich is very agressive and can go over the top, in a good way, with that hairy gain. It has a more modern vibe to it but I still think it does a good Queensryche or Rat sound. Its voicing, to me, is a bit darker than the Jose but still very Marshall.
The Jose is your creamy, smooth gain that is very pleasing to the ears but not over the top gain. It can be tamed back very easily to do classic rock tones and and right back to the heavy gain 80s metal tones. Once again very smooth and pleasing gain sound even when the gain is maxed. With the Aldrich you sometimes want to scale back the gain a bit and it doesn't tame down as well as the Jose for classic type stuff, as it wasn't made for that IMO.
The #39 is the most versatile out of the three in that it has a footswitchable clean channel, a footswitchable loop and a footswitch control to go from stock JCM 800 with added gain stage to the #39 mod with added gain stage. I really love this amp as much as the Camerons. The tone is definately 80s and probably closer to the Jose but maybe in between the Aldrich and the Jose. Great amp for sure. I have yet to see a video that truly captures this amp at its best, I have to put one up soon.
Bottom line is that I love all three and they are all different animals for sure. I am on the hunt for a Jose myself so good luck to you. Psychodave put up a video of the Jose vs. the Aldrich and it was one of the best comparisons I've seen out there. The Jose he demos used to be my buddys and it was amazing sounding, I wish I bought it. Be warned! You cant just own one Cameron, if you get one, you'll have to have the other.

Thanks a lot for your exaustive description. Now you know very well these amps, is there a way to know if an amp is a real Cameron modded or is it modded buy someone who tried to imitate the mod? I mean, how can I distinguish a real from a fake that probably someone could sell on ebay?
Thanks a lot again, Andrea.

Hey buddy. best thing to do is get the info on the amp and possible pics and come back here and post up on it. Between all of us guys that try to stay on top of the Cameron modded amps that are out there, and Nick being a direct link to Mark Cameron we will try to keep you safe in your hunt for a Cameron amp.

As an add-on question, is there a big difference between the Hi and Lo-Gain Jose mods?

Yes, the HG Jose i had had a LOT more gain ontap than the LG Jose. The HG Jose and Aldrich are pretty close in gain levels, i have owned a HG Jose, LG Jose and Aldrich.

Dan, thanks for the clarification!
