That is total suckage. Really dig his playing. Great band.

I'm in total shock. I think this is hitting me as hard, if not worse than eddie. Its taking me back to the night i found out about dimebags murder. This is horrible news. I know he used to really hit it hard, as far as the r&r lifestyle goes, but 41!? I wonder if he had some underlying health shit that he didn't talk about in the press. He was one of my favorite players. in the top 5. I first heard bodom in 1999, and i was blown away. It was like Yngwie and Rising Force on PCP :D His playing always amazed me. I even convinced my band to cover six pounder when we opened for In Flames in the mid 2000's. R.I.P . I'll never forget my favorite lyric of his, which is: "YOW YOW WOW YOW" ;)

I can't even process this, this doesn't even seem real. Jim, pretty much everything you said is my exact same experience.

He was a huge influence on me, and I'm lucky to have seen Bodom in their prime. RIP Alexi...another one lost way too soon.

I saw this thismorning as well, so sad. Children of Bodom was a huge influence into discovering heavier material back in high school. When I first heard six pounder it blew my mind - the dude had raw talent early on that’s rarely seen.

May he Rest In Peace.

I read on CNN that he had a long term illness

Wow. I partied many times with Alexi. He was the real deal. R.I.P.

He had it tough, from the beginning.

Someone should show Dave Mustaine this -

Was it a drug problem? 41 is too young! RIP

No drug problem unless you consider alcohol a drug. His liver was shot at an early age. He, in the the last few tours with Bodom, wouldn't come out with the band to party with the fans. The other guys were always ready and willing. Roppe was a gas and the most friendly. He didn't speak english that well but he could get hammered and was funny as hell. None of the guys in Bodom did drugs, not even weed when I partied with them. They mandated Grey Goose & Jamesons in their rider.

Alexi loved Brittney Spears! We were talking chicks one time and he went off on what he'd do with her, funny shit.

I saw Bodom in New Haven, CT in 2008 and Alexi barfed on Roppe's shoe.

My playing is heavily influenced by his work on the three classics. Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper, Hate Crew Deathroll.

needled 24/7 is one the greatest songs ever written in my opinion

damn thats a bummer. i had friends on the unholy alliance tour years ago, he came into their dressing room and we started drinking and talking about cars. i didnt even really know who he was

he said he stopped drinking WHILE ON TOUR some years back, but he was the Finnish Dimebag, in terms of drinking and partying. I know a lot of those euro bands drink more than drugs. Speed is the only other thing euro bands are known to be into, but thats just a slightly safer alternative to coke, which every american band fucks with from one time or another. I remember him saying in an interview that he drank and took ampheds before he got big. So long term health stuff could have been from heavy drinking, or just genetic/random. I drank quite hard for a solid 20 years, so i always get a little self reflective when someone around my age (37) dies suddenly. If we're talking just damage from usage, and not the lifestyle of usage, alcohol is one of the worst drugs. it does beat the piss out of your organs when you're a habitual abuser of alcohol.

i did the same and cut back a lot when one of my friends father died in his 50s basically due to drinking.
