He's 14 and gets worse with each passing week. He has kidney failure which causes him not to eat much, lose alot of weight and smell pretty bad. His hearing is just about gone too. My wife and I don't want to see him like this. He's the best $10 I've ever spent. (got him from a pound when he was 8 weeks old) Gonna miss him. :(

you're doing the right thing dude. sympathies sent, and good luck to you.

Bro, I went thru that 2 years ago with my Jack Russell....an amazing dog. I don't have to tell you how hard it's going to be...it really hurts. The one thing I can offer, is find a vet that will do it at your house. I found a sweet lady, who came with her assistant at 10:00 at night (after the kids were sleeping) and put down Woody in our family room. He went in my wife's lap, while we were at his side. It's a familiar surrounding, and I didn't want him to go on a stainless steel table. Best decision I made, and I'll do it with all my dogs....call around, you'd be surprised how many do it. Hang in there man.

It is not fair how much we outlive our pets.

Sorry to hear this man

Oh man, I dread the day when I have to put my dog, Satch, down. Satch is about 15, deaf, poor eyesight and walks around like an old man.  He still has a decent appetite and plays for short burst but I know his time is coming soon.

Just remember, you gave him a great life... :)

Sorry to hear this bro. I had to do this twice a few years ago, both dogs we had for 13+yrs, they were like our kids before we had kids...

Me and my girlfriend went thru this last september, her Jack Russell's back legs got injured and he was in so much pain that it completely ruined him. We tried everything to make him better, but he went to sleep one night and never woke up again.

We were very upset, that dog meant everything to us but we knew he was in a better place and without pain.

Im sorry to hear you're goin thru this man :(

Aw dude, sorry to hear. You definitely are doing the right thing for your dog though. One of my dogs is creeping up on 17 years old. She's definitely seen better days, but not quite spent yet. I know we're going to have to do the same with her pretty soon.

this may not be the best time to ask this question, but if you have your vet put down your dog...can they give you the body so you can bury it?

I'm sure you can....it's better than where the dog will end up..the trash or worse (recycled into petfood).

thanks everyone

Yes, we can bury him...although I'm not sure my yard is big enough and also with the weather right now, the ground is rock solid. We'll just have him cremated.

I think that depends on where you live. Some states have a law against burying animals in your backyard.

I certainly know how you feel, and I am sorry. It is a tough time, but when you love something like that, it is the best thing for them. It may be hard for you, but it is best for them.

My sympathies go out to you and your family. He will understand that you saved him from the pound, that he has had a great life, and that this is just another of the things that you are able to do to help him.

We had to put my cat down the day after my last finals, guess what I was thinking about during my tests? :( Thanks to him I absolutely nailed all my tests. Greatest cat ever

It's going to be a really hard time, but make yourself really busy during that time, go to work, gym, etc.

incredibly sorry to hear that, :(

I dread the day that mine go.

prayers sent

Man that really sucks :(

I remember putting down our yellow lab when he was 14. He was the same way...could'nt hardly walk, started getting tumers on him, bad eyes/ears, and stunk like decaying flesh :aww: :(

I bawled my eyes out when it was all over with...heck, I cried the whole way home

He was my hunting dog that spent evey weekend in the woods with me....I sure miss that old dog :(
