I operated on a Super Distortion last night. It was bitch to get that huge ceramic mag out with all the glue on it. Had to heat it up without melting the wires and carefully pry it out. I then swapped in an A5 mag. I had to shim up the magnet since it is much thinner than the original ceramic. Then threw it in the bridge of my alder super strat.

The verdict is great. Turned the pup into an "brown" sounding medium output PAF to my ears. I am really suprised at the outcome. Lost a lot of output but that is good to me. The gritty mids are gone and it is very smooth. Had to raise it up much higher than I usually set my pups, but I typically run mine low anyway. So probably not any higher than usual to most people.

I wonder why Dimarzio doesn't offer this pickup  It sounds better than any Dimarzio bridge I have used (Breed, D-Activator, Steve's Special, regular Super Distortion, Air Zone, Norton). Or maybe they do offer this pup under another name ???

I highly suggest you try this out if you have one laying around

Sounds like a sadistic thing to do!

I love my stock SD in my 1999 Hard Tail strat

Dimarzio with Bass/Mid push and Alnico 5 is called Norton.

It could also be any number of others........Breed, Tone Zone, etc ???

The Tone Zone and Breed EQ curves favor the mids much more than the Norton--Norton is closer to the Super Distortion EQ curve.
