Hi there,
This is driving me crazy & with COVID here in UK all guitar techs seem to be closed so hopefully some wisdom to be had on here!
ENGL Blackmore 100W head.
Screeches when 4th channel (hi gain) is engaged. Which is the one i use most... Screech isn't normal feedback. Sounds like high pitched whistle.
Screeched even when no guitar or effects plugged in.
I can control the screech with the master volume.
When 4th channel engaged amp is loud with lots of hiss, sounds like a sort of wind blowing effect.
V1 position preamp gives very loud clunk noise when tapped. Rest of positions virtually silent.
Swapping out tubes makes no difference. Tried stock ENGL tubes & 4 x Tung Sols with no difference.
Tapping housing that holds v1 in place makes same sound than tube itself, if not louder.
Running amp with V1 housing off makes no difference.
Lightly tapping top of amp casing itself gives an audible clunk through speakers.
All of this at about 2/10 volume so nothing extreme.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers for any help!
Amp has been a pain in arse since I had it but seems to be getting worse. I do run it at high gain but it's a high gain friendly amp & the stuff described above shouldn't be happening.
