What price ranges can I expect to encounter when shipping a tube amp head? I know that locations, weights, and the carrier will vary but approximately how much am I looking at?

I have shipped amps before but it has been well over 10 years. Just been lucky moving things locally over that time I guess. Now I am thinking about selling / trading a couple heads and have not been getting any bites locally so want to test the shipping waters.

Thanks

$75-$100 on average is what i would guess for UPS/Fedex. Also depends on value that you might insure them for and all that.

$100 is typical with double boxing. More or less depending on distance.

Last amp I've shipped from Nashville to Washington state cost 178.00
It was a Matchless head, double boxed and insured for 3k.

From Wi to Ga a small Marshall 1x12 combo was 115 with insurance. 45lbs. Fedex.

Thanks for the replies. Just trying to figure out how much I am going to have to eat to possibly ship these.

I remember back 15 or so years ago shipping amps to California from Ohio for about $40. Easier for me to lose $40 on a deal than close to $200.

Open account with UPS and it’ll save you some cash over taking it to the UPS Store. Plus you can get shipping quotes

I don’t know how you guys ship for so low. To ship my Laney head from Seattle (ish) to the Chicago area I was quoted around $175. Problem is the max they would insure it for was $1200 (maybe $1400. Can’t remember exactly). That’s even if they box it up.
I then took it to UPS and they straight up told me they don’t actually insure it for damages unless they box it up since they are “shipping experts”. I had it all boxed up and knew there was no way in hell they would do a better job than I did. But again, they would only cover it for loss and not damage unless the package it. That must be either new or that particular store’s policy.

I’m going to actually ship my Laney now so I’m going to go through this myself.

$168.00 for a Bogner head to go to Washington state.(UPS)
Take it to the Hubs (FedEx and UPS) since your close to them and both are on Engle Road

Oh, and right from the mouth of the UPS counter person.
She said "See this industry stamp on the cardboard box?
If yours doesn't have that we will deny any and all claims"

...Just sayin

I got my Framus shipped to me in FL and the seller was bitching because it cost him $150 to ship and he was expecting far less. I basically said "tough shit" he should have estimated better as that was his fault. Double boxed, insured, etc.

Sold a guitar to psychodave last year, told him I’d take it to the FedEx store and have them wrap and ship so it’d be insured for the full amount, I hadn’t shipped a guitar in years.

Came out to something like $170 from UT to NY, we were both shocked. He ended up kicking me more for shipping, but that right there was the end of my shipping days. If I can’t sell it local I don’t sell it.

This. If you have a shipping hub near you; its way better than a retail store. Ive never had any problem shipping at my local fed ex hub. Shipping is still way more than it was years ago tho....

Last few heads cost me $120-$140 UPS or FedEx...that's through a retail store though...no account.

No bites locally so I guess I will start looking into possibly shipping the Ceriatone. Sounds great but I have some type of amp rotation thing going on in my head so looking to move it. Going to figure $200 to ship just to be realistic when accepting an offer.

My last amp shipped from Minnesota to Illinois via UPS/signature required on delivery. Came to $183. I pack my amps extremely well. I start with a snug fitting box then wrap that in a big sheet of foam like you would find in a a couch or mattress topper. I then put the foam wrapped box in another box and fill in any gaps with bubble wrap and/or cardboard sheets.

Shipped my Revv Recently from San Antonio to North Dakaota for $107. I’ve shipped to S. California for about $85. Cost depends on where it’s going, distance and dimensions. Most amps get rated by dimensions vs weight.
