I was surprised the other day when I went to a band rehearsal and the other guitar player was using his i-pad with bias amp sims run through the drummers PA......The PA was high quality and everything sounded good going through it... backing tracks , vocals, guitar etc......

So Im thinking about putting a guitar sim program on my android tablet and going through the PA just for rehearsals. Would be nice to only bring that and my guitar. Anyone have success this way and what program do you find works and sounds best with an android tablet ? At home on my desk top computer I like the Lepou plugins but I have to run those through recording software such as protools or logic which I wouldnt be able to run on my tablet.

I've been known to show up at rehearsal with an iPad running jam up, it freaks everybody out until they here it. I also carry it to gigs so if the amp goes down I have a back up, it ( bias/jam up) sound pretty killer thru the pa.

Android is quite limited in this department, sadly. A lot of the software is device specific, and a lot of the devices have various issues with audio processing and such. An iDevice is a much better choice for audio production and amp sims. As an Android user, I wish this wasn't true, but it's just how it is at this point in time. An iPad of some flavor is much more useful and a better sounding choice currently.

Thanks for the heads up, I will look more into it.

Yeah, you might be able to pickup a relatively inexpensive iPad and have better luck.

I decided to use Bias on my phone through a Matrix q12a full-range speaker for practicing and such when I didn't want to bother turning on a big tube amp. Except that now I haven't turned on a real amp in months. Bias sounds really good, I'm actually considering just selling the amps.

The other neat thing about the setup is that Bias has bass amp sims. I decided why not buy a cheap bass and give it a go. Turns out after playing guitar for 20 years I LOVE playing a bass.

I'm real tempted to use the Mateix speaker to amplify an electronic drum kit too, to try and learn how to play a bit on drums.

Cool thread, I use an iPad live to run our mix and never thought of having a sim on there as a backup but that's a great idea

Been using bias for bass guitar rehearsals, its wonderful and fits in my pocket on my iphone.
