I don’t know why I haven’t tried this yet with some of my amps, but I’m going to make some clips later today with some amp slaving setups. Mainly using my driftwood for the power amp, because it’s an absolutely amazing power amp that I know people have used for slaving with other amps preamps.

I tried this years ago when I had a VHT 2902. I remember using it with my 5150 and it was pretty amazing from what I remember. However i never mic’d it up, so it might have sucked who knows!

Just curious what unique combinations any of you have come up with. Makes me want to get a 2902 again, but I’d probably splurge and try and find a 2150. Also, how well were the results with using a high powered solid state power amp like the matrix GT series stuff if anyone has tried it? Thanks!

I am reamping (slaving) alot these days. Yes I know reamping has another meaning in recording, but I prefer using that versus the older term.

I have a 1960 fender brown super going into the power station.
I am also running my 1966 Vox AC50 into a suhr RL IR into a Marshall 8008 Valvestate power amp in valvestate mode.
Then I am running a 1940's Masco MA50 into a Suhr RL IR into a Crown D60.

I have tested tube poweramps in reamping and while they are cool, don't feel I am missing much with the Marshall 8008. Its like I get enough color, but don't have to worry about the double impedance curve.

I can tell you any amp that I am planning to get that does not have a nice master volume, reamping sure is attractive. The fractal X-Load is a load I want to check out, $300 for it seems like a solid price.

I also really wanted to try taking one of my kinglsey tube preamps into one side of a tube power amp, then into a reactive load, then take the reactive load line out into the other side of the power amp.

Can't go wrong with the Matrix GT1000, very transparent, lots of power! Reamping with Suhr Reactive Loads

I started slaving back around 92 I think. Ran old plexis into a Juice Extractor thru fx and out stereo to two late 70’s 2203/ 04’s power sections into two 4-12’s. For recording I used a Macintosh MC30. Sounded cool, lots to haul and hookup though.

Does using a Gorilla into a power amp count?
Because myself an Scott Shelby did this in the early 80's.
Seriously. Meth kicks ass!
Stop judging me.

Edit...just confirmed it was an old 6 channel Peavey PA head, the kind that looked like a guitar amp.

I have a Bray LO-1 Line Out out box from my PLEXI going into a DSL40CR's FX Loop Return. Sounds incredible. I also have an attenuator hooked up to the PLEXI feeding a cab.

The Line out feeds a delay and boost for solos before going into the DSL. I crank the DSL's reverb for now but eventually I want a decent reverb pedal.

I also have a Bray, when I use my 72 Trem. Right now I have an 88 2205 using the stock line out to a Lexicon MPX1, both outs to 2 Roland SD3000s, out to 2 inputs of an HH M900, out to 2 412s. Massive, clear and swirling sound.

That is... impressive. Wow.

I'm also running a Suhr RL -> GT1000FX setup and love it. I've been thinking about getting a 2nd Suhr RL as well. Stereo is just too cool.

Cool thread idea. I have a VHT 2/90/2 and it's always been very solid. I've always wondered what it would be like to pair it up with something like a Mesa Mark series as they have no Depth/Resonance knobs.

I plan on getting a Mark at some point. When I do I'll have to pair it up with the 2902 and post some clips.

Interesting to see so many people using the bray pedal. I have one myself, but I was using it with my amps to bring down the level going into my daw Out of my load box, as it’s just very very hot, and needed to drop it down big time.

I’m curious how something more accessible like that matrix would do as a slave for my amps preamps compared to say, the VHT stuff? Would be Interesting to see. I kill myself for not buying a VHT 2150 years ago at those prices, but it is what it is.

For what it’s worth I did run my morin modded Marshall into the XTC 101b’s power amp, and it was pretty spectacular. Great high end, totally different vibe. This is a great way to see just what the power amp of your amp is imparting character wise, because I hear A lot of the same tone coming from this setup as I would just plugging straight in to the 101B.
