amplitube 2 software... frustrating as hell

Trying out a demo of it. If I use it 'live' and play guitar through it, I have to set it to about a 1/2 second delay. Sounds awesome, but useless.

Tried putting it as fx in adobe audition 1.5 (for reamping) and it won't even run.

My system: HP tower, AMD 3700+ processor, 2gb ram.

Anyone having decent luck with this software? I love how it sounds, but I'm starting to think I need a lot more PC horsepower to run it!

Pete

Amplitube2 is definitely the best plug-in modeler out there. But it IS a CPU hog. That being said, it looks like your machine is plenty powerful to run it. I can't really help you with Audition cause I'm not familiar with that program.

Found info on something called asio4all... might solve my issues. I'll try it tonight, hope it helps. This thing sounds MUCH better than the standalone modellers I've tried.

IVe got some usable tones out of Amplitube LE. Ive actually boosted my mbox with an OD808 while using Amp LE in Pro Tools LE and it sounded pretty cool. Not as cool as a real amp, but passable for laying down ideas and what not.

Im going to get myself a copy of Amplitube 2 though. I have a feeling it sounds a hell of a lot better than LE. I have a pirated version of the Jimi Hendrix Amplitube that doesnt sound half bad.

You need a decent soundcard with ASIO drivers to run windows audio apps at reasonable latencies. Your motherboard's built in AC97 or whatever won't cut it.
With my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 I get 1ms of latency in Guitar Rig 3...

Dumb question time - how are you hooking up Guitar Rig 3 through the computer?

I run my guitar into the guitar inputs on my M-Audio Audiobuddy mic preamp, which goes into the sound card. From there, I run it as FX on Cubase tracks or use the standalone program.

OK, thanks! I'm a virgin with this computer based recording stuff!

Your audio card is the weak link. You need a ASIO capable card. ASIO are low latency drivers for this type of application. I use a M-Audio Audiophile 192 myself.

need to set a lower latency, its the latency that you are hearing

I use amplitube 2 all the time, it is way better then Amplitbue 1 or le, my vote for one of the best modelers out there.

That ASIO4ALL driver is great for using w/ stock sound cards. I get 4-6ms latency with the lousy AC97 chip which is usable. I am looking to get the M-Audio Firebox sometime soon though when I find a great deal!

Sweet, I bought a 2496 yesterday, should be in tomorrow. Hadn't seen this post when I got it, glad to see I made a good choice. :) Thanks for the info.

OK - second dumb question: How do you improve latency on a laptop?
