Anyone doing OR80/120 or their Master versions out there?
I’ve watched a few comparison vids and prefer Orange. I’d be playing classic and hard rock through it, not Doom. Almost every demo is down tuned, fuzzy Doom, which I don’t hate but makes it very hard to figure out if the Matamp’s would do the certain midrange thing that 70’s Oranges do with A440 hard rock. The Matamp GT120 ?
Nice to hearHaving experience with both a 70s OR120 and some Matamp stuff, I will say the Matamp is what you are looking for. My bassist has a Matamp (Green) GT150 that he wanted to use for both guitar and bass. IMO that amp doesn't have enough power to push bass well, but the guitar settings were killer. He used it briefly in a Lynard Skynyrd tribute band called Lynard Skinflute. Matamp will do classic rock just fine.
I still really want to try one of those. Supposedly, he was taking old amps like Peavey Winsors and rebuilding them to be similar to Matamp circuits. If you can score one cheap, do some science for us and rip it.I've seen some hovercraft amps pop up....are they similar?
I had one of the 20 watt Dwarvenauts. Definitely seemed geared towards doom stuff, which it did pretty well. Lots of gain on tap. It had a little more noise and hiss than your average amp, but nothing that would be surprising at that price point and gain level.I've seen some hovercraft amps pop up....are they similar?
They are mostly modded Jet City. Probably not very close to actual Orange/Matamp's, but it's in the tonal/gain ballpark where all these Matamp guys end up with their pedals haha.I've seen some hovercraft amps pop up....are they similar?
