Never really thought about this before, but it randomly popped into my head. Is there ay benefit to running an amp at 4 ohms, 8 ohms, etc.? I'm mainly asking about any benefits to the amp itself and not the sound. Like less stress running at a higher/lower ohms setting. I'm meaning amp-speaker ohms will match in any case and not referring to amp-speaker ohm mismatches. Also talking tubes amps not SS.

As far as I understand, so long as you're matching the OHMS to the connected cab, it makes no difference as fast as how the amp operates efficiency wise.

Good luck

16ohms sounds best, the power transformers use their full power to manifest tone, what it does to the amp though I don’t know

Tone notwithstanding, not that I can think of. As long as the amp is happy with the speaker load, I don't think there's any benefit one way or another

I’ve heard people claim Vox and Marshall amps sound best at 16 but I could never tell much of a difference. I don’t have golden ears though. There’s a major difference in 16 vs 8 ohm speakers though, for whatever that is worth.
