Question: to your knowledge, is there a "list" of what a Beginning Guitarist should know/accomplish. Then, a list for an Intermediate Level Player?

thanks

I would say the best way to learn is by learning a few of your favorite songs, then figure out what key it's in and why. Learn all of your scales but you can start off slow with major and minor pentatonics. I would also add that i would not be anywhere near this whole scene if it were not for my teachers. My first teacher was into all of the same music as me and that really helped. So try to find someone to teach you that has the same taste as you and knows their way around the fretboard. Good luck!

All good advice, before me. One thing I suggest is to learn all the notes on the fretboard. It will pay off down the road.
If you can, find yourself a good instructor. One that like the same music you want to play and who is patient. Musically, I'm a slow learner. I took lessons as a teenager, didn't have the discipline to progress. When I picked the guitar back up, I wasted about a year then I found a good teacher. It's been well worth the money and I can regularly see progress 4 1/2 years later. Keep playing!

^^I agree with Buster about learning the notes on the fretboard. It's not that difficult
once you understand how the notes are laid out. First memorize the notes on the low "E" string
(or even the notes that are at the dotted frets, most guitars have a dot at the 3rd, 5th, 7th 9th and 12th frets)
Then the "A" string.
Also, a guy named Mike Dodge has a web page dedicated to learning the notes, as well as learning the
basics, I think it's Mikedodge.com. He does it in a very straightforward and easy to understand manner.
I recommend it to all of my students.
Hope that helps.

My buddy went to MIT or some crazy music school. He said learning every note was key and they made you do it. It helps in the long run when sight reading or trying to compose a lead.

Im still working on it but this guy is an amazing guitarist and I trust everything he has told me.

Yes!!! It takes a while but way worth it...all your positions starting with you pentatonics then add your 2 missing notes to form your diatonic scales...all your appeggio shapes in every position...this way you never get lost unless you want too
