Any of you elite Diezel owners try these preamp tubes?

I'm particularly looking at these, the Ruby 12AX7AC7 HG Select Cryo

They have essentially created a Chinese 12AX7A with tighter mica supports and fused together the upper plate structure for better stability and low noise from rattle. I haven’t tried them, yet.

Stephen has tried cryo tubes, his moniker is C-4.

Hi King Crimson :salute:
I have used and continue to use a cryo NOS MUllard preamp tube in my Diezels. It cost me $185 about three years ago. It has given me amazing Mullard tone without any outside extraneous noise, rattles, etc.
I have not used any other cryo tubes other then that one as I just prefer Mullard tone.
I use it in V-1, and although it sounds different from the other Mullard pre-amp tubes that I use, I got it because cryo-freezing the tube re-aligned the metal molecules in the tube back to a straight alignment which is "suppose" to make the tube last longer. As with any tube, they all have their own sound, even among the same types from the same company. Cryo-freezing does not give the tube a specific tone.

NOS Mullards that have not been used previously, as with other higher quality brand offerings, are normally longer lasting tubes to begin with, so I don't expect this tube to go south on my any time soon. However, now that I said this, it will probably fail on me at the next job!

If you try a cryo tube, remember that the tube will have it's own sound based on the company it comes from, and not from cryo-freezing it. If you like the sound of a given tube, cryo-freezing should give you a stronger tube which shoud out last a similar tube which has not been cryo frozen.

I believe tubedepot.com does there own in house cryo treatment.they
also have some facts about it as well

I have been wanting to try some cryo treated power tubes in my herbie

Very good, Stephen. I love my Chinese 12AX7A's in Herbert, but the Ruby 12AX7AC7 HG Select look like something very nice. Honestly I'm not too interested in the cryogenic part, and I realize that it has nothing to do with the tone, but rather the longevity of the tube. I may have found another source for the Ruby 12AX7AC7 HG Select that are a little less $$$.

And by the way – I still use and have my trusty "Stephen Rudnick" beige polishing cloth!

Thanks!

I'll check it out. Thanks for the information.

Hi C-4,

Can you compare the sound of Mullards to Chinese tubes? The preamp tubes in my Uberschall are itching me, I don't know if I should go for just a new set of Cheese or something different. Something sweeter sounding, especially in the mids, would be nice.
