What's your take? Sounds pretty accurate to me judging from a few YouTube demos...
Pete Thorn's demo sounded pretty spot on. I've owned a few early Marshalls, including a '69 plexi, and I think it sounds pretty damn accurate. The only issue when watching these demo videos is that most guys are using load boxes, OX Box, IRs, so you don't get the impression of how it sounds in the room. And what usually sets a real deal plexi apart from a clone is how punchy and percussive they are in the room. The MVC on the Plex seems to work great, to the point where I don't think an attenuator would be necessary even at really low volumes. Even though i'm a modern high gain guy, I think I'm always going to lust after early Marshall tones. It sounds amazing in the videos. I dont know about accurate, but badass one way or another
This is one of my main gripes with YouTube gear demos. Everything is through a load box with IRs, and I agree with you that it robs you of hearing how the amp sounds how you will be hearing it when playing at home. That's also subjective though, some will argue against that...The only issue when watching these demo videos is that most guys are using load boxes, OX Box, IRs, so you don't get the impression of how it sounds in the room.
I've seen some "in the room" videos where it's not just a load box with IRs, and it sounds killer. Even some of the videos where they're using IRs it sounds great too, but nothing like clips of room sounds. Got a great deal yesterday on a demo from Sweetwater for under $2,300, so I pulled the trigger on it. I've also got a slew of overdrives to run in front of it to experiment even more. Looking forward to hearing what I can do with it. Can't wait.I've had mine for several months, it's a really good amp. Can do the "cleanish plexi", the crunch and saturated gain with a manageable volume.
