Howdy I recently purchased an Egnater M4 ( it hasn't arrived yet ) to use with my Axe Fx . SO in the meantime I hook up my Egnater Mod 50 and use the slave out to feed the input of my axe fx. Some presets sound good , I have to disable the amp blocks and stom box fx , but I keep the Cab blocks as I am using atomic wedges . I go out of the FX into a mesa 20/20 power amp into 2 Atomic Wedges ..FRFR speakers .

Some presets were good , but others with ambient effects had huge bassy hum that got louder and louder and eventually almost blew the speakers ..( at least I thought they were going to )

I thought it might be the atomic cabs , but when I hooked up my mesa 2X12 V30's I had the same issue . If I go out of the effects send on the Mod 50 it is fine , but the sound is very thin and tinny .

I am wondering if it is because I am going out of a power amp into the AXe Fx , and am hoping I won't have the issue with the M4 . I have tried changing the volumes and at lower volumes it is fine , but not useable . Also the input of the axe was not being over driven ..at least the lights were barely hitting the yellow .When I unplug from the mod 50 and go direct with the guitar , I can crank as loud as I want and everything is fine ..

Not sure if anyone has expierenced this or not

Thanks

Hey,

I hope you had a speaker hooked up to your Mod50 to load it down...

But to the point. The front input of the axe is meant for a guitar. I believe the right way to connect the Mod or M4 is using the Return input on the back. You would configure an effects loop in your patch, then connect the slave out to the effects return on the axe.

When you get your M4, it will mimic the effects send of the mod50, not the slave out. In this case, you would still utilize the effects return on the back of the axe. I would say, enable power amp sims with this setup. Maybe even insert a tube preamp into your preset. I just sold mine. But, I tried it through the return of my mod50, and the only way I liked it was when the power amp sims were enabled. My .02

Thanks for the reply . Yes I did have a speaker hooked up to the Mod 50 . I tried both inputs on the axe fx . What I did was merely take the amp and drive blocks and shunt them , or bypassed them , figuring the Mod50 would act as the amp . I never thought of putting a return block on the Axe FX. I wasn't planning to use 4 cable method as I heard there were ground hum issues .

I went Guitar- Mod50 input- Slave out - Axe Fx input - Mesa 20/20 pwr amp - 2 atomic wedges . (mod 50 was connected to a mesa 2X12 V30 )

I will try the above set up along with a return FX block and se if that helps .. Or what you suggested with PWR sim on
Thanks
Chris

So I tried today ...

I went guitar into Mod 50 - then slave out to input 2 ( FX return ) of the Axer FX . I then added an FX loop block to the patch , but I get no sound . I also tried using FX send and Return in the patch , but still no sound ..there m,ust be something I am doing wrong

Effects loop or feedback send and/or return? Big difference. Effects loop is how you send a preamp or slave out in the return of the axe (if the amp is providing the "send"). The feedback send/return is for extending the effects chain from one row to the next.

Also, try resetting the defaults... If you have copy L to R, you will encounter issues.. You also may want to post to the axe forum. Those guys are much more involved with that unit than I ever want to be...

I tried both ...

But I did finally get it figured out . I had great results with the serial effects send ... The parrelle was not great ..but Serial was awesome ..

Thanks
Chris

I went guitar - Mod 50 -parallel effects loop send - Axe fx input - Axe FX output to mesa 20X20 pwr amp - 2 atomic wedges FRFR

( I used a mesa 2/12 V30 for the load out of the mod 50 ) Also previous message I said serial send ..but was mistaken it was the parallel one )

In the Axe Fx , I just turned off the compressor and drive blocks as well as amp blocks .. I never tried with a tube preamp yet . I was fairly happy with the sound on some presets... I find there is a lot more volume plugging your guitar directly into the Axe Fx and using the internal amp block , I haven't figured out how to match that yet .
