I love my LP Jr and it gets played 90% of the time while my other guitars sit and watch. It’s easy to swap pups and P90’s are very dynamic which make it easy to hear the differences among models.

Last week I said the underwound Gibson A3 was never coming out. Well it did today…..lol. It was so different that my ears “thought” it was great. But since I play heavy stuff, I started missing the push really quick.

I’ll preface by saying I’ve never used a Dimarzio pup of any kind that stuck around very long and I’ve tried a LOT. But they nailed it on the Vintage P90. It growls with clarity and is extremely touch sensitive. Can hit pinches like a high output bucker with ease. It’s like the stock A5 Gibson (which was borderline great) but can handle high gain better and stays focused.

Just thought I would toss this out for old school P90 guys. Don’t let the name Dimarzio shy you away. It’s significantly better than the others I’ve tried: stock Gibson, underwound Gibson, BKP Nantucket, Wolfetone Meaner, Brandonwound, Manlius Howlin Goat, Duncan Antiquity, and Amalfitano.

I’m happy with my stock Gibby but good to know of something else to try if need be.

how would you compare it to the wolfetone meaner?
I couldn’t even tell you other than I preferred the stock pup. The Wolfetone was the first thing after the stock Gibson. The stock pup went back in pretty quick. But I recently had the stock pickup back in and can compare to all the others mentioned (except for the Manlius……also sold quickly).

I have recently went through half a dozen P90 pickups. The Jared James sig P90 is an absolute beast! For $150, it had better be.

That being said, I recently installed a set of the Planet Tone 1956 set with Alnico II in the neck and V in the bridge.

There is something special about the PT stuff - open, dynamic, warm, clear, harmonic.

Not trying to derail the thread - I was just shocked once again at his good the PT stuff is.

Also, have a guitar with the Epi Pro 90s Alnico and they absolutely rip!

Glad DiMarzio did well, as I find some of my older DM loaded guitars to have a bit of a flat sound.
