Can the cab sims be turn off on the Sansamp pedals? Whats the general consesus on these pedals. Can the behringer sansamp clone hold a candle to it?

Im looking to score a GT2 used, but if anyone can recommend a good alternative CHEAP distortion box. Im talking Boss prices here

This is mainly as a backup, but the added studio application that a Sansamp brings is a plus

i don't have the GT2, but the Tri-AC. i prefer it over the GT2 because of the 3 channels you can store. it doesn't have the cab sim, which might be good for you.

that said, it's a very good pedal. the fender and marshall simulations are awesome. the mesa lacks a little bit of gain on the top for those chugga-chugga riffs imo. the active EQ is AWESOME, the tone responsivness to changes are very big. so getting exactly what you want needs some time and often leads to ridiculous EQ settings on the pedal (but who cares as long as the sound is top notch).

imo it's worth the money.

I bought one and horribly regretted it.

This is NOT a pedal to be used in front of an amp!

The only way it can be used effectively is direct to a mixing desk- but you do have to watch the levels so there is no clipping.

I had a gt2 for years and tried several clones
the behringer is pretty close
and noisy like the original

but in my experience, they are good for entry level solid state amps
not something I'd use with a tube amp
the GT2 eats A LOT of dynamics
one of the most compressed pedals I've heard

the GT2 doesn't have a true cab simulation
it's just some kind of low midrange sweep in a switch
the classic setting always sounded the best for me
