Been hearing rumors on and off. seen some threads as well, here and there. just want to have a budget set aside if and when this thing "un-cloaks'" so I can add it to my studio collection. as I am a huge justice fan. anyone here have some intel? would be cool if they re-issued the original heavy EV cabs as well...right?

My conspiracy theory on Metallica is... it wasn't just cliff that died in that tour bus crash...they all did. and the label had them cloned back to life to keep the money machine banging on all 8 cylinders. hench, the radical sound changes with the black album onward. why cliff was left out? ...is where my theory has holes in it :sneaky: maybe A.I. can bring him back for the release of AJFA2 ?

I barely care about Metallica at all and even I thought Death Magnetic had some real bangers

Pretty sure they didn't want any more polished bullshit. It's supposed to be little raw sounding. Sounds fine to me for what it supposed to be.

Folks need to appreciate records for what THEY ARE & not what they "think" they SHOULD BE.

It doesn't round raw in a good pushed analog way though. At least in some parts. Some parts have that "I turned my iPod volume up too high" digital distortion thing going on.

Yeah, as mentioned above, raw is fine, but it sounds like they have it so loud it is just digitally clipping everywhere. It sounds horrible.

Raw would be the old Garage Days EP from 1986. I love the tone of that album. Sounds like it was recorded in a garage. It is like you are sitting there with them.

I mean, let's say I made a pretty decent looking italian meal, and then let's say that right before I was about to serve it, I dumped a bucket of raw sewage on top of it.

If I brought it out to people and heard them complain about how it would have been good if not for the layer of shit covering it, do you think it would be reasonable of me to shout "HEY, you have NO RIGHT and there is NO REASON to think about what this meal could have been had I not poured shit all over it!"

Or do you think that would be absurd, especially when under the shit clearly could have been good if it wasn't covered in shit?

Death Magnetic and Hardwired are like that. The riffs are mostly boring but there's some okay musical moments scattered around in them... but both albums are ruined by their absolute dogshit production. It makes them almost unlistenable, imo. The guitar tones alone are complete trash. Not to mention Death Magnetic clips to hell and back and sounds like it's another recording of the album played through a walmart boombox with the volume on 8. People messing around in their home studios on this forum alone have achieved better metal tone than the anemic, splatty bullshit tone on Metallica's latest records. That's absolutely worth calling out and wondering what could have been, were an actually competent producer at the helm.

That's so funny. When I took my daughter and her friends to Megadeth a few years ago they were all screaming and crying that they loved Dave and were going absolutely crazy and ready to start a riot. It was funny because it reminded me of how I was when I went to see New Kids on the Block...
Although, I ended up with a poster and she ended up with my old ESP DV8.
