Anybody have any good Randall RG80ES settings for me?

I'm trying to get more of a hard rock / 80s hair metal tone. But I'm having trouble with it either being muddy on the rhythm or, to biting on leads.

Bass - 7
Middle 4
Treble - 5
Presence - 3
Gain - 8
Master - 3

I find you gotta get the amp up to band levels to get the most out of it. It smooths right out and loses that fizz/sizzle right around 2.5 or 3 on the master. Sounds it's best at about 4, but by then it's pretty damn loud. :D

Also, these amps LOVE overdrive pedals. I never play mine without a boost of some sort.

Ya I'm talking about band levels. I had a gig last night, and was having a bit of problems. I was kind of fighting it. The sound guy said my Legacy sounded WAYYYYY better. Form 8 feet in front of the amp I thought it sounded alright :aww:

You using a boost? I highly recommend you do... I love my maxon od808 with mine. Also, keep the presence as low as possible, keeps the highs from getting brittle.

What cab, speakers are you running it through?

Honestly, i think the rg80/100es heads are better suited to more aggressive metal tones, because of that midrange grind it has. It does the hair metal sound good though.

I'm using Eminence v12s. Haven't tried a boost. I've never really been into boosting. I think I had the presence almost all the way off, if not off completely. I find the presence adds alot of "buzz", kinda like a recto type sound. I'm trying to get a crisp rhythm tone, with a nice bitting lead with out being ice picky. I've got gigs this weekend I was hoping to use it for. I messed around more tonight but I'm still fighting with it a bit.

I think I've got now
Pres- off
bass 11:00
mids 11:00
treble 10:00 (pushed)
master around 9:00
gain maxed

i would either try a boost or an eq in the loop, or both.

Yeah, the presence adds that Dimebag characteristic (which obviously ain't everyones cup of tea)... I like it at about 2 or 3. Gives it bit of bite to the tone without being too sizzly.

You don't know what you're missing running it without a boost. It's a whole new animal when it gets pushed a bit up front, it smooths out the gain and gives it a really tight bass response.

Wow, not much bass hey?

I find at 11:00 that it has PLENTY of bass. Anymore and my palm mutes jump out way too far out of the mix
