I absolutely love the Triple XXX, and I'm assuming these are one in the same. Anybody playing one?

I don't own one but I think it's an interesting amp. My understanding is the 3120 is a cosmetic remake of the XXX. The Peavey JSX was developed from the XXX. The JSX was then used as the basis for the Peavey XXX II.

The three channels of the 3120 are intriguing, but it's a high gain amp. If you want a classic rock sound, the Peavey Butcher might be better. If you want high gain, the 3120 is probably the right amp.

Something else. The XXX II adds a noise gate and separate inputs for high and low gain. The damping control of the 3120 is replaced with resonance and presence controls. You might find the additions on the XXX II interesting.

Yes, XXX is the 3120, JSX is the XXX II. I dig the XXX, just listen to Exodus on Shovel Headed Kill Machine. That's brutal.

The JSX is very underrated. Great gain and superb clean

I had a 3120 for about a month because I thought the Triple xxx and the 3120 were
The same, I don't care for it, it was bright and brittle IMO.
Tried to adjust the bias to a colder setting and it was already maxed out to cold.
Long story short, I don't have it anymore. And I found a clean older triple xxx and it's ok.

The 3120 is 100% the same as the XXX circuit-wise. Only 2 differences, which are: 1) Looks, and 2) 3120 comes with EL34 stock rather than 6L6 that the XXX did. Other than that, it is the exact. same. amp.

They are cool amps. I have a XXX halfstack, and for some reason I just can't get rid of it no matter how many times I tell myself I'm not a high gain modern metal player anymore. I feel the reason so many are turned off to the XXX is the fact that the Crunch and Ultra channels have active EQ. Can't dial it in like most other amps out there. Anything past noon on the eq and you actually add gain and compression to the signal. Can be a good thing, can be a bad thing if you don't familiarize yourself with it. It can take awhile to get usable tones out of it, but IMO worth it. Be conservative on the gain and EQ settings and you should be good to go.

I had a Triple XXX years ago and loved it. I'm looking forward to the 3120. It'll be here tomorrow.

So, you were going to change the bias to colder and expected to get a warmer fat sound? It wouldn't work.

Bright and brittle is very possible with the XXX however, active eq, wrong guitar pickup combinations and usually shitty players are the usual cause. Choose your poison! Setting the eq as you would with other amps is a recipe for disaster and also, bright and brittle. These amps hate some speakers also

The 3120 also ships with EL34 tubes which more or less make it a bit fatter and warmer than the XXX 6L6 variant.

The best high gain clip I've EVER heard was by a guy in HCAF, nwright. It was a triple XXX and it was fatter than eric cartman.

I had an Ultra Plus, ditched it for a Triple X and now have a Triple X 2. They seem to be rare for same reason. I've never seen one in a store. I just put 6l6 tubes in and I think it sounds better than the original Triple X.
