I'm in the market for a Floyd-equipped super-strat for when I feel like getting my VH on. There's a maple neck/body in stock on the Kiesel site that has Floyd, looks nuts and priced right. Maple body is not something I'm familiar with.

I've been REALLY gassing for a BC Rich Steve Smyth guitar. It's got a maple neckthrough body with mahogany wings. I've got too many guitars to justify it though.

They tend to be bright sounding and heavy, with slightly "scooped" mids and a big low end. That said, I've seen just about every rule of thumb turned on its head regarding tonewoods, so my only meaningful advice would be to try it and see if you like it.

Satchel uses maple bodied kramers. Jerry uses maple bodied rampages. I think you'll be ok...

And Lynch too..

I have a Jackson dinky Rhoads which is all maple (apart from the ebony board) and it sounds great. Really clear and powerful..

To really get your VH on, northern hard ash is the body wood to go with like VH himself used.

Got an '85 baretta, solid maple, they are heavy as the legend goes (mine is 9.7#) but man it sounds great to my ears, possibly the pickup is what's keeping it from being too bright though (as some - but not me, feel).

I have this Carvin DC145 that is all maple and it rocks. Seriously heavy though. The notes pop off the neck unlike any guitar I've had. Killer action too. Carvins almost play themselves. Not a huge fan of the pickups, but not worth changing on a guitar like this with all the switching options. It's a bright guitar but can be tamed with some minor knob fiddling on your amp no problem.

I've got a couple. One has an EMG 85 in the bridge and is possibly my best sounding guitar. Thick and balanced in every way. The other I have took a while to get the right sounding pickup in it. Ended up with a Seymour Duncan Invader but it's a little dark. I think if you get the right pickup in a maple guitar they can sound great. Go for it!

Yup......rocking a Kamikazie.....all Maple. Heavy as hell.
sounds like no other. Its my lifer guitar

I love the tone of maple. Punchy and clear. I have ESP's that are all maple and they kill

I have a Gibson Les Paul all maple body/neck and it's awesome!! Bridge pickup is a ToneZone from Dimarzio.

I'm not completely sure but I think my '86 G&L Invader has a maple body. Thought it was alder but someone on the GL forum told me they only made maple and possibly swamp ash bodies on those models that year. It fits the usual description; heavy, very biting and bright and snappy response.

This is a good take.

Thanks guys. I picked up a Floyd equipped MIM strat yesterday but I'm still considering this Kiesel. I'm past the maple body but I think I need dots on the board.

I've owned 3 maple bodied guitars (1 bolt on, 2 neck throughs). Maple body means mids, mids, and more mids. Personally I found them to be the opposite of scooped. Very focused and concentrated in the mids to upper mid range, as opposed to the open high end sparkle of swamp ash, basswood, korina or even lighter pieces of mahogany.

Yeah I have an 85 Kramer Baretta (with a new maple neck), and it sounds awesome, lots of mids, as heavy as my Les Paul, and sounds just as huge.

Technically not a maple body but neck-thru with maple wings, '81 BC Rich Mockingbird

It has a set of SD APH1s, sounds great for classic and hard rock and cleans up real well with volume knob manipulation.
