I was going to get an Ibanez TS9 and then stumbled on the Way Huge Rhino and people weer saying it was a better TS9. Looking to boost the blue channel on my 5150-III.
Seems like what a lot of folks are saying. Seem to dig the TS9 more. Thanks!I have a Camel Toe (Green Rhino and Red Llama in one enclosure) and also have a TS9. The Green Rhino is a very good circuit in my opinion but I like the TS9 to boost my Stealth 50W blue channel more. Smooths out the teeth a touch for lack of a better description.
On my JCM800 though, it is the SD1 and Green Rhino that sound better for my uses. The Rhino's of today are pretty versatile though so IDK. Inexpensive enough to try them both but, I have an overdrive problem so having several flavors on hand at all times is a must.
+1The Green Rhino Mk II is one of my favorite boosts. I have an original, and built a clone just so I have a backup, lol.
The 100hz control really lets you dial in the low end, and the tone and curve controls can go from dark and smooth to bright and clanky. It kind of covers the TS spectrum, but does way more.
The Way Huge Rhino is such a great pedal - great tone and it is also versatile. It just replaced my TS9 and OCD. It also couples nicely with everything I've tried.I was going to get an Ibanez TS9 and then stumbled on the Way Huge Rhino and people weer saying it was a better TS9. Really? Wow. Mine was a MK IV version so I wonder if they changed anything.Depends on which version of Green Rhino. I bought a Mark V (smaller version) from a fellow forumite. That pedal was underwhelming, to say the least. Mud city.
I still say, if TS is your desired flavor, the MXR GT-OD is a much better pedal. More aggressive, crunchier.
Apparently. It was either too tubby, or too thin. I've had older versions that were much better. I think I had both a II and IV, no complaints, (except a little noisy/hissy). Tone-wise, great! But, there are SO many better TS-9 variations out there. Cusack Screamer is a good one. The Ghoul Screamer, Maxon OD808, even the MXR Custom Badass OD. Behaves VERY much like the Green Rhino, (nearly identical, actually, with the mid bump engaged).Really? Wow. Mine was a MK IV version so I wonder if they changed anything.

The MXR GT-OD can boost a mid gain tone into some fire breathing crunch if desired. I'm using mine to boost my split humbucker for a heavy single coil Gary Moore tone and I've only got the output a little over 1 oclock and the gain barely cracked openDepends on which version of Green Rhino. Sure does. I got mine for $60, like new. And, you can have a Zakk Wylde OD too, with the internal switch. It's a pedal I won't part with. The MXR GT-OD can boost a mid gain tone into some fire breathing crunch if desired.
