Has anyone used the Combo of Gibson burstbucker Pros and a VH4?

Trying to use this les paul with channel 3 on the vh4, and its feeding back like crazy, even with a noise gate on. Can't seem to turn the gain past 12:00 without getting the feedback. My other guitars, which have Duncan JBs and EMGs, I can turn the gain up to 2 or 3 with no issues.

I tried lowering the pickups, but the problem is still there. Do you think its a grounding issue?

I have a similar experience with regular burstbuckers, they feedback like a bitch on any amp with a lot of gain. I think they are not wax potted, that's the problem.

But I keep reading that the burstbucker Pros are wax potted?

do the pickups have the plated covers on them?? if so, remove them.or get them waxed by a tech. that will take care of it. If they dont, the pickups may need to be waxed a bit more. i have used all the Gibson pickups and that is usually the major issue.

Even potted pickups can have issues with high gain and Les Paul's. The cavity below for the pickup route acts like a chamber and
feeds everything back through the pickup. If they are covered, it's even worse. Try some foam in the cavity to prevent the pickup from moving.
This is the same reason we see many body mounted pickups. No room to feed back and no possibility to move around.

To try this theory yourself with the VH4 as I have, just put a finger or two on the edge of the pickup while it's feeding back.
Mine stops squealing every time. The LP had the same issue with 57 Classic's, Burstbucker Pro's and a Duncan 78'.
The only pickup that did not squeal was a Fralin 9K. It sounded terrible through the VH4 though, so out it went. :)

those pickups are awful for so many reasons...

it's a shame that Gibson puts crappy pups in every guitar now
they steal a lot of the guitar tone potential

I'm running a '57 black beauty triple pup and a '68 firemist... I'm not sure if they're the BB or HB style of pups, but I've had little issue with over-the-top feedback. The feedback I've garnered has been manageable, gnarly, and quite fun

Waxing is one thing. But the other thing you may wanna check is your preamp tubes - microphonics in worn out preamp tubes can contribute a lot to what you're explaining.

Food for thought.

Does anyone know if the the uncovered Burstbucker pros that came with the faded les pauls were wax potted? I think the previous owner put covers on the pickups, but don't know if they were properly wax potted.

Back out one of the screws on the first coil and see if there is wax on it.
