Anyone here got a Charvel Star?

Curious. Always wanted a San Dimas but never found any for sale with a pointy headstock. Thought about the Star a while ago and i love metal looking guitars.

Anyone know where i can get one also?

thanks for linking that Doug!

still got it, and can ship to NZ!

wow,

GREAT deal!

Few things not for me on it. One Humbucker, strat head and finish.

Very good deal though!

yea i hate the finish, i don't know what they were thinking, let alone me for buying it!

been thinking i might be money ahead to get it refinished.

you could get a Warmoth done up like you want.

The Music Zoo seems to keep a few stars around, and Drumcityguitarland will have a Jackson star every once in awhile.

here's a not so good pic of a Warmoth i built.

hey man!

you love your Stars dont you! awsome!

Yeah its funny after i looked at your thread i looked for a warmoth!

What neck did you get for it?

How does it play/compare once its all built?

Cheers!

Halford

the Warmoth has a Wenge neck with Pao Ferro board and is 24 3/4 with the Jackson head stock. body is black limba or korina.

it plays and sounds great, guess it's the wenge that gives it a really aggresive midrange. plus the wenge doesn't need a finish and is smooth as glass.

at first thier neck pocket angle took some getting use to, it's a little flatter than most stock guitars, making the bridge just a little lower or more like on a floyd guitar.

now, my only complaint about the guitar is the body thickness. it's just a little thinker than the usuall Explorer etc. which if i didn't have a beer belly, i probably wouldn't notice.

but yea, overall i'm pretty happy with the Warmoth quality and sound.

oh, another gripe which isn't big deal, just some work. is fret dress, you'd have to roll the edges yourself.

another option would be GMW. or Killers from Japan, but doubt you'd like thier headstocks.

GREAT info!!!

Thanks HEAPS!

Now, you mentioned necks.

The orignal stars have San Dimas necks right?

Id love one but i dont think Warmoth or musikraft do pointy San Dimas necks do they?

I have a great guitar/tech luthier that will fix anything up and put it togther so any issues like that stuff you mention i can get taken care of.

what neck profile is yours on your star?

Cheers!

To see if you even like stars you cab look for an Aria pro II ZZ custom, a steal of a star shape.

i've never seen a Charvel Star that didn't have a Strathead. the only Stars i've seen with the pointy have been Jackson. maybe there's some old tooth paste logo Stars around with the pointy headstock?

guess i'm not even sure what qualifies as a San Dimas neck? certain profile with a skunk stripe?

don't know if Warmoth will do a skunk stripe, but they can do the pointy headstock and should be able to do the profile and the fret board radius you want.

my Star came from the Custom shop in San Dimas and has a 1 3/4 nut with a skunk stripe. i haven't even considered what it has for fretboard radius, if it's flat or compound?

the profile on my Warmoth is i think thier standard thin, and defantly has a compound radius.

Maybe they are Custom Shop Charvel Stars?

Thanks for your help!

i'd think if it's pointy Jackson had something to do with it, he owned and/or had rights to the Charvel name for awhile.

the Jackson custom shop could do what you want also, and they offer a San Dimas style neck as an option. just not sure what they'll do on the headstock with the San Dimas?

if you don't get silly with options and find a shop to treat you right, the Jackson Custom wouldn't be too bad. would just have a long wait time.

So when the pointy charvels were around thats when jackson were involved?

i see.

Jackson Custom shop will be too expensive and too long a wait.

Thanks!
