I wanted a Univox Hi-Flyer Custom ever since I saw Kurt Cobain play one on SNL in '94. Looks so cool upsidown, IMO. I'd love to have a left-handed one, and play it backwards like he had too. They can be expnsive these days, just because he played them.

I played a Mosrite Gospel at a used store years back, and loved it. Didn't expect to like it because it's not really my style (besides the story above), but it was really nice. I liked the neck shape.

Anyone else here dig/have one of these?

Maybe if I have Suhr make me one, you guys wil be interested.

And then Mosrite can bitch at Suhr for copying their work.

How about some pictures? Might stir up some interest.

I thought Kurt Cobain used Mustangs?
He played tons of different guitars. Mustangs, Jaguars, Univox Hi-Fliers, a Mosrite Gospel given to him by the company owner, Aria Les Paul copies, the Jag-Stang, an SG copy in '88, a Fender Bass VI, a few more..

See the picture of him with his Mosrite Gospel above. I'll post the picture of his Hi-Flier Custom too.

His white one from '89 or so, Bleach tour. The picture looks like it's from '92 though. I think this one is a Phase IV Univox Hi-Flier, but it could be a Phase III.

Cool, I'm not a big Nirvana fan but a buddy of mine is obsessed with them. I had to pretty much turn down a gigging job with them because he was such a Cobain wanna be and it was really obvious   Couldn't take it  I do like some Nirvana though, just not a lot of it.

Here is Kurt's Univox Hi-Flier Custom. Picture from '94, Live on SNL, 2nd time they performed there. Playing "Heart-Shaped Box" during the tour for In Utero. Not sure if Pat Smear is playing a Mosrite I think, as Univox never sold the Hi-Flier in that finish.

Might not be too bad if it weren't for the trem and pickguard. The pickguard reminds of my least favorite kind of guitar, the 72' tele :bleh: The shape is kind of cool though, for me it would just have to be plain with a Floyd or a fixed bridge

I'm not a wannabe, but I do really follow him and Nirvana. They were my first real band I got into. Them and Metallica when I was like 8 months old. I've got a tape of me yelling 'tallica! in my crib at 4:00 in the morning   I've got a stack of Nirvana bootlegs 2 stories tall, including one of their first shows on VHS.

Most of the Phase IV Hi-Fliers have a TOM style stop tail

Sorry guys, I'm having fun here :D

If anyone knows someone with a Hi-Flier they want to sell, let me know!

I've been told their Les Paul copies are really nice too. There's a few on eBay right now.

Funny story, just last month one of my almost retired work buddies brought in this guitar and he said it's been in the closet for years and I just need to get rid of it. Turned out it was a phase 3 Hi-Flier. I had no idea what it was when I first saw it. Had to research it a bit. Just needed cleaned up a bit, prob new nut and a fret job. Anyway, I saw a guy was asking about them on Gear Page and I chimed in that I had one for sale. So I sold it to him for $250 and let him worry about the nuts/frets. Too bad or I would have sold it to you!!

Was kind of cool though as I never really had seen one. It was the blonde with the maple neck/board.
