And if so, what are your thoughts on the tone?
Im getting one soon and am just curious about everyones thoughts on it, especially in comparison to the old diezel RL with the eminence speakers.
I like DARK, WARM tone. I hate harsh highs and spikey mids...which always seem to come out at high volumes. I really like smooth mids and highs...!!

The main reason im posting this is because there doesnt seem to be a lot of people on here talking about them and their characteristics. So far just Pauly.

I have the new design one with 2 x V30 on the one side and 2 x Hempcones on the other . Amazing cab :)

IMHO the RL Hemp is not dark and warm. It´s the opposite.
But i love it. I still don´t know if it was the right decision to choose the FL V30. I love this cab too, no doubt, but i don´t know if i would like the Hemp more.

The RL Hemp sound fantastic. The most beautiful clean and crunch i ever heard...not only with the Herbert.

2 and 2 eih..? Interesting.
Well im playing hard rock at high volumes and have never been a v30 fan. Im hoping that the hempcones will handle that and still sound rich and warm. I dont mind a little breakup (in a 5153 kinda way) but i dont wanna lose articulation in leads.
Our music is kinda like a Heavy Nickelback with guitar solos. Some of the stuff is heavier. More thoughts.. in detail..?

Totally agreee with Bato's description. It has more highs mids and tighter lows than a RL with V30s and it is very articulate. For me it's the perfect fit for the low-mid oriented Herbert. Also, you will cut thru better than ever before with this cab.

Piss.. i didnt want highs and mids..at least in the v30 kinda way.
But i guess i'll find out soon enough...
If i dont like it, ill just sell it on here...

I hated what the V30 did to the highs and mids but I love the hempcone speakers.

I wonder what enzyme treatment the Diezels hempcones have, there are different level of treatment that result in more and more highs.

I have the stock TT ceramics and have no high or mid issues. the speakers can reproduce those frequencies but I find them easily dialed out or in depending on preference. no permanent spike like the v30.

granted I do not have the diezel cabinet so that may factor in alot too.

So to my ears after playing both cabinets (The new RL with hempcones and the old RL with Eminence) im hearing the new rear loaded speaker to sound much like greenbacks through a hot rodded marshall. The Rythm stuff through these cabinets is just rippin! My issue however with them is that they are a little grainy in the high mid dept. Not spikey or harsh like v30s but definitely brighter than my old diezel. The old one is very dark and yes kind of like someone put a blanket over it. But you know what? i like a dark tone. My lead stuff was way more Eric Johnson'ish through my old cabinet, now its more Lynch-like. I like both tones and find it really hard to decide what to go with. The blues tones in it are better in the new one as well as the cleans. If all i played was rythym guitar then id 100% go with the Hempcones. It just seems like i get better low's / lower mids out of my old one. IDK. Very tough call. The tone is VERY different. Cabinets really make a HUGE difference in tone! I REALLY want to try a FL GK100 cabinet now..

fl g12k100 is my weapon of choice, best balnce for rhythm and lead. also super easy to mic liv. kinda like the whole speaker is a sweet spot.

best of luck on the search brotha!

So my .2 cents on this.
I got my RL 2xV30 & 2xHemps mostly for versatility in recording, cause that is what I use it for most of the time. V30 is kinda of the standard for modern music so I needed this tones whatsoever. However, it turned out that the speaker cab sounds great standing in front of it. Hempcones are quite nice and midrangey tight in response (to me at least) and combined with the V30 presence, provide exactly what I want to hear for a nice punchy rhythm sound. Then for the soloing work, depending on what I want to get, I will either mic V30 or the Hemps. Hemps on cleaner solos usually and V30 for more distorted work. Hemps cut through very very nicely and fit to the mixes almost without adding anything but some delay.
All in all I love this cab, we had a long discussion with Peter Stapfer and Terry back then that it might not work due to different responses, possible phasing issues etc, cause nobody asked for this combo and it was never tried, but as stubborn as I could be, we built it this way and it turned absolutely great (as Peter S. was quite surprised and confirmed).
Now at some point I will be getting a FL - it probably will be 2x12" oversized with G12K. I had a Framus one before with V30 and G12K and it sounded really great as well. Highly recommend to check the G12K :) just for the sake of it. Although if the dark tones are your cup of tea, then G12K probably won't be your speaker. It is quite tight, quick and bright to certain extent.
But...you never know, to each its own :)

rob, sorry you arent vibing with the cab :( . I thought for sure thats what you would have been looking for. If you fancy an adventure...again.... you are welcome to come up tp PA & u can try my new FL cab. I will take the 2 V30s out & load it with all 4 G12Ks for you to try. Let me know.

...the quest continues.....

I found it took well over 40 hours to break in the hemps and they got smoother. I ran death metal through em for a week, made a big difference in my rig. give em a beating and see if they improve.

These are my thought´s bro! I still don´t know if i coose right.

Hmmmm... I will try and see how it turns out. Maybe they DO need to be broken in.. I was under the impression that they already were though when i bought it used. IDK though... I cranked them last night for about 2 hrs so that should help.

Its not that i dont like them. Like i said before..they are WAY better for rock/metal rythym then my old cab and for bluesy tones including clean. BUT, the only thing i cant say is when i want my SMOOTH (ungrainy) Eric Johnson'y tone from channel 2 it still has that brighter tone to it and i want dark. I have my treble almost all the way down too...

Wow...does that cut through the band mix?

Hahah.. its the 180 watt herbert!! EVERYTHING cuts through. I could put everything on 0 and it would. Id just have to crank the volume ;) Right now my lead volumes are almost at noon! Does anyone think that breaking in the speakers will make them less grainy, or is that just the natural characteristic.? Im wondering if the GK-100's arent as high end'ish/grainy..

I think I´ll try Mr. Dezibels manual to break them. My v30.

Volume...ok, but my band members will kill me if i´d do that.
