Anyone know the Fender Super-sonic?

The Supersonic is a really solid amp, that often sounds bad at the store because the factory sets the bias cold. I've had several friends buy one used that sounded meh, adjust the bias warmer and bang, killer amp.

Cleans are Fender cleans, a couple varieties, the gain is hot, Prosonic style but without the active EQ (so I understand). Really a nice amp once you dial in the tubes.

Grossly underrated amp IMO. A local store has had the combo version for a long time. You get 3 very usable tones from it.

The supersonic does seem like a cool amp, but there are a good deal of annoying things about it. Here is what I have picked up from reading and listening to clips on the SS.

1. The volume is really touchy. Make no bones about it, this is a loud amp.
2. Lots of variation between amps, this could be explained by bias, but people have tried multiple ones and been surprised about the variation
3. Wish they would have not put a V30 in the combo amp. Would have preferred a Weber or Eminence speaker.
4. Again they chose not to put reverb in the head version.
5. Folks either seem to like the bassman clean mode or vibrolux but generally no both. Vibrolux is often described as too bright and thin. Bassman is described as too thick and meaty.

For me I went with a Bandmaster Reverb and a Fender SF bassman. I got both for less than a Supersonic. I did end up selling the bassman, but both are great amps.

I was offered a mint head and matching 212 for $1000. Never heard of one before yesterday. Seems interesting

really cool and fun amp. I had a ton of time to kill at a GC out in the Chicago suburbs 2 summers ago and i spent about half an hour playing a nice 70's telecaster through a super-sonic 2x12 combo. the cool thing about it was that the amp had a couple of different "suggested settings" on a piece of paper from Fender that came with the amp and each of the 4 or 5 settings sounded totally different from eachother and were all usable.

i was impressed by the lead tone i could get out of it by rolling the treble off and cranking the gain, bass and mids. i really would love to get one someday when i go the combo route.

I think Vai is using one in his current rig for cleans. It was on a video he did for his touring rig. I looked for clips on you tube at the time and there was nothing. There are probably some now.

I recently picked up an old Fender Prosonic combo and I love it.

That is a badass amp! Switching issues aside, it was killer.

A friend of mine told me the Supersonic didn't touch the Prosonic. I wonder how true that is.

I stay in Channel 1 Class A mode anyway. The POP everyone bitches about when switching channels is really not that big of a deal.

I played it so long ago but didn't recall the switching pop bug me personally. I'm sure it's no different than the Ultimate Chorus amp I have. I just remember the clean was awesome and the lead chan was a flamethrower!

Yes, the Prosonic! Still lovin mine

The Supersonic is way more bluesy than the Prosonic, the Prosonic is more aggressive, has a lot more gain and is f* loud!
